OpenAI: Musk is using the legal system to 'harass' OpenAI to help xAI compete
BlockBeats news, on October 10th, according to Cointelegraph, OpenAI filed a motion on October 8th seeking to dismiss Elon Musk's lawsuit against it. The company stated that Musk is using the court system to "harass" the company in order to boost the competitive company xAI. Musk previously sued OpenAI in February, accusing the company of deviating from its "non-profit" roots. The discussion around whether OpenAI might shift to a "for-profit" model at that time sparked a debate within the entire AI community about the legitimacy of OpenAI's business model. However, Musk withdrew the lawsuit in June and then filed a separate lawsuit in August. In the August lawsuit, Musk's legal team accused OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman of "intentionally appeasing and deceiving Musk, violating contractual and fiduciary obligations. The early OpenAI team was developing General Artificial Intelligence (AGI) for the "benefit of humanity," but the project has now turned into a for-profit entity controlled by major shareholder Microsoft." OpenAI submitted a document on October 9th requesting the presiding judge to completely dismiss the case. OpenAI's legal team claimed that Musk is using the legal system to harass the company and that his claims have no legal basis. According to OpenAI's legal team, the lawsuit is "Elon Musk's latest move to continuously harass OpenAI in order to strengthen his competitive advantage." The document also claimed that "Musk once supported OpenAI's mission," but "abandoned his joint venture with OpenAI after his attempt to dominate OpenAI failed. Since the launch of the competitor xAI, Musk has been trying to gain an advantage through the judicial system."
