On August 17, Jinshi Data reported that Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya stated that the forest fire that broke out in the western port city of Izmir has spread to residential areas, forcing about 900 people to evacuate. The fire, which started in the Karşıyaka district of Izmir, has been ongoing for three days. Due to the ongoing high temperatures and dryness in the area, the fire spread rapidly under strong winds. In the early hours of the 17th, the fire spread to residential areas and an industrial zone, prompting authorities to swiftly evacuate residents from three villages, totaling about 900 people. The fire has also destroyed 16 houses. So far, there have been no reports of casualties, but wildlife and ecosystems are suffering significant damage.
