Demis Hassabis Steps Down as Google DeepMind CEO; Jeff Dean Leads Four Engineers Out to Found Discovery Loop

According to BlockBeats, Demis Hassabis stepped down as Google DeepMind CEO on August 6, transitioning to chairman while becoming Chief Scientist of Alphabet. Koray Kavukcuoglu, former DeepMind Chief Technology Officer, will assume full responsibility for Gemini development and report directly to Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai. Hassabis will continue overseeing long-term AI research and leading drug development company Isomorphic Labs.

On the same day, legendary engineer Jeff Dean announced his departure from Google alongside Sanjay Ghemawat, Oriol Vinyals, and Quoc Le to co-found Discovery Loop. Google participated in the seed round and will provide cloud services and computing support for the first year. Alphabet stock fell 4.03% on the day, according to BIT market data.
