According to CNBC, Jay Parikh, executive vice president of Microsoft's CoreAI group, instructed employees this week in an internal memo to prioritize OpenAI's flagship GPT-5.6 Sol model when working in GitHub Copilot. Parikh stated that shifting workloads to OpenAI models helps maximize the company's token investment value. The guidance applies to Microsoft's internal use of the coding tool, though engineers retain the option to select alternative models. A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed the default setting aims to balance performance with efficient resource utilization.
