Google's Chief Scientist Jeff Dean Leaves After 27 Years to Found AI Startup Discovery Loop on August 6

According to Wall Street Journal, Jeff Dean, Google's chief scientist, announced his departure on August 6 after 27 years to found Discovery Loop, an AI startup focused on automating scientific research workflows. Three senior Google scientists—Oriol Vinyals, Quoc Le, and Sanjay Ghemawat—will join Dean at the new venture. Alphabet will provide cloud computing resources and invest in Discovery Loop, with Radical Ventures and Khosla Ventures co-leading the seed round. Within Google, DeepMind head Demis Hassabis will become chair of the AI lab, while chief AI architect Koray Kavukcuoglu will assume most of Hassabis's responsibilities.
