Nikita Bier announced on August 5 that he is stepping back from leading X's product division to take on an advisory role. During his roughly 400 days in the position since July 2025, Bier shipped nearly 30 products including Timeline and Android app rebuilds, Grok-powered custom timelines, and XChat, which topped ChatGPT and Claude in App Store rankings. One market data pilot drove an estimated $1 billion in Cashtags trading volume within 48 hours.
However, growth claims face scrutiny. X's 2025 ad revenue declined to $1.8 billion from $4.4 billion in 2022, while downloads fell 13% year-over-year to 104 million. During his tenure, the European Commission fined X €120 million for Digital Services Act non-compliance in December, and California's Attorney General launched an investigation into xAI's Grok over alleged nonconsensual sexual imagery in January. Bier now passes his roadmap—focused on payments and trading—to three engineers.
