BRICS Pays 43% of Peanuts Exports in the Chinese Yuan

BRICS member Brazil has exported over 180,000 tonnes of peanuts to China, Russia, Algeria, and the Netherlands in 2025, and 43% of the exports were paid in the Chinese yuan. This comes after the alliance recently settled soybean payments in the local currency.

The BRICS alliance is pushing the Chinese yuan for agricultural products, including peanut exports. China and Russia have agreed with Brazil to procure agricultural exports in the local currency.

According to the latest data from Agrolink, Brazil shipped 22% of the total peanut exports to Russia. 21% of the exports was sent to BRICS counterpart China, and both countries paid the Chinese yuan. Only Algeria and the Netherlands settled the trade by paying in US dollars.

Out of which 35,000 tonnes were sent to China. Only BRICS members Russia and China paid the Chinese yuan for peanut exports.

Around 11% of the peanut exports were sent to Algeria and 7% to the Netherlands. The ones exported to the Netherlands will later be shipped to the other parts of Europe. BRICS is making the Chinese yuan gain mileage in agricultural exports.

Its BRICS counterpart, China, is also among the top consumers of peanuts, therefore pushing the Chinese yuan for payments. The alliance is prioritizing local currencies for agricultural products, reducing reliance on the US dollar. Also, the bloc is dominant in the crops and agricultural sector with an array of extensive products. The demand for food remains steady despite the recession and other financial turmoil. This gives the 10-member bloc more mileage to push local currencies for cross-border transactions.
