Cryptocurrencies that can be mined on a home computer in 2025

Despite the fact that mining Bitcoin on a regular computer has long become unprofitable, there are a number of promising cryptocurrencies that are still available for home mining with the right equipment. Let's consider the most profitable options taking into account modern technical requirements and potential profitability.

Dogecoin (DOGE)

Dogecoin, originally created as a joke cryptocurrency based on an internet meme, has evolved over time into a serious altcoin with a large user base. Unlike Bitcoin with its limited issuance, DOGE is designed on the principle of an inflationary model, adding new coins into circulation each year, which creates additional incentives for miners.

Technical parameters for DOGE mining:

  • Algorithm: Scrypt (joint mining with Litecoin)
  • Average block time: 1 minute
  • Block reward: approximately 10,000 DOGE
  • Mining difficulty: variable, depends on the total network hash rate

Mining settings:

  1. Create a Dogecoin wallet to store mined coins (official Dogecoin Core or the online version)
  2. For CPU mining, install the CPU miner program, however, the mining speed will be minimal.
  3. For effective mining, use GPU ( AMD or Nvidia) graphics cards:
    • For AMD: cgminer program
    • For Nvidia: the cudaminer program

Although individual mining is technically possible, joining mining pools such as (, for example, MultiPool) significantly increases the chances of regularly receiving rewards. After successfully mining the coin, DOGE can be exchanged on major trading platforms.

Ethereum Classic (ETC)

After the transition of standard Ethereum to the Proof-of-Stake mechanism in October 2022, Ethereum Classic received a significant increase in computing power as miners redirected their equipment from ETH to ETC. The Ethereum Classic project was created to preserve the original Ethereum blockchain after the controversial hard fork related to the DAO incident.

Technical Specifications:

  • Algorithm: Ethash (EtcHash)
  • Target block time: 13 seconds
  • Block reward: 2.56 ETC
  • Hardware requirements: a video card with at least 4GB of memory

Optimal settings for mining:

  1. Software: T-Rex Miner, Phoenix Miner or NBMiner
  2. Minimum requirements for GPU: 4GB of video memory, but for optimal performance, 6GB+ is recommended.
  3. Effective graphics cards: Nvidia RTX 3000/4000 series or AMD RX 6000/7000

Although specialized ASIC devices can be used for mining ETC, home mining on powerful graphics cards remains profitable under favorable energy consumption conditions. Mined ETC coins can be traded on the largest trading platforms.

Bitcoin Gold (BTG)

Bitcoin Gold appeared in 2017 as a fork of the original Bitcoin blockchain. The key feature of BTG is the use of the Equihash algorithm, designed to counter ASIC miners and restore the ability to mine on regular computers.

Technical Parameters:

  • Algorithm: Equihash-BTG (Zhash or Equihash 144,5)
  • Block time: 10 minutes
  • Block reward: 6.25 BTG ( is subject to halvings like Bitcoin )
  • Market correlation: the price of BTG often follows the movements of the original Bitcoin

Mining settings:

  1. Software: EWBF Miner or GMiner
  2. Recommended equipment: Nvidia graphics cards of the GTX 1000/RTX 2000 series and above
  3. Mining pools: BTG Pool Pro, 2Miners, Suprnova

Despite the fact that the active development of the project has slowed down in recent years, BTG maintains a significant market capitalization and daily trading volumes, which provides liquidity for miners.

It is important to consider that mining profitability depends not only on the chosen cryptocurrency but also on the electricity costs in your region, the efficiency of the equipment, and the current market price of crypto assets. Before starting mining, it is recommended to calculate the potential profitability taking into account all factors.
