A path into OpenAI’s internal codebase began with a single image uploaded to its community forum.
Hacktron says that on July 25 it chained a HEIF image-processing flaw with a single sign-on (SSO) misconfiguration to access employee accounts. The team used an employee’s Codex to open a harmless pull request in an internal repository, without inspecting its code, then stopped. OpenAI confirmed a fix about 14 hours after the report.
