In cryptocurrency trading, many people focus on one number first when reviewing a trade: how much money did it make?
But there is a more important question that is often overlooked:
Profit on paper does not equal the actual amount you take home.
Suppose you open a position and it shows a profit of $100 when you close it. You might think this was a successful trade, but without calculating all the trading costs, you cannot accurately determine how much the trade actually made.

Bitcoin has been slowly climbing back over the past few days and is now at 78,300.
The long I called at 77,800 on the 30th is still open, up over $500. It also wicked down to 76,300 in the early hours of the 31st, still well above the 74,800 stop-loss, so it didn’t get stopped out.
After the panic over the hack passed, it stopped making new lows. The lows have been getting higher each day: 76,300, 77,000, 77,600, edging up little by little. This isn’t a sharp rally; buyers are slowly stepping in below.
