PANews October 26 news, according to CoinDesk, Solana will launch the Alpenglow upgrade by the end of this year or early 2026, which will significantly drop the operating costs and barriers to entry for validators. According to Michael Repetny, CEO of Marinade Labs, it currently costs about $5,000 per month to run a Solana validator, with $4,000 (80%) going towards voting fees. The Alpenglow upgrade will significantly reduce these voting fees, making it more affordable for more participants to operate validator nodes. In addition to drop costs, Alpenglow will also enhance network bandwidth and reduce latency, improving the economic benefits for validators through better block packaging, while reducing malicious MEV (maximal extractable value) behavior. However, the upgrade may place higher hardware requirements on validators.
