The week that sets the tone: FOMC, inflation, Big Tech, and where bitcoin goes next
If you trade volatility, this is the week you have been waiting for. Between Wednesday's Federal Reserve decision, Thursday's first look at third-quarter GDP and the Fed's preferred inflation gauge, and a wall of megacap earnings, nearly every major macro trigger that moves bitcoin, equities, gold, oil and the dollar fires within a narrow window. Here is what is scheduled, what markets are pricing, and how each event could move your positions.
First, the macro backdrop. The Federal Reserve, led by chair Kevin Warsh since May, raised its benchmark rate by 25 basis points on September 16, lifting the fed funds range to 3.75 to 4.00 percent. That ended a nine-month pause and was the first hike in more than three years, a clear signal that the fight against entrenched inflation is not over. Headline and core consumer price data ran hot in September, and while the Fed's preferred measure, core PCE inflation, cooled slightly to around 3.0 percent year over year in August, the level remains a full point above the central bank's 2 percent target. Goldman Sachs estimates that tariff passthrough accounts for about half a percentage point of that stickiness, meaning underlying inflation may be closer to the low twos once the one-off effects fade.
This backdrop explains why Wednesday's meeting is so pivotal. According to CME FedWatch and a Reuters poll of 100 economists, roughly 94 expect the committee to hold rates unchanged at 3.75 to 4.00 percent when the decision lands at 2:00 p.m. Eastern on October 28. The implied probability of a hold sits near 90 percent, and the Fed rarely moves so close to an election. But here is the catch: all 100 of those same economists expect a hike at the December meeting, and futures price in roughly a 75 to 90 percent chance of that move. So Wednesday is not about whether the Fed hikes. It is about what chair Warsh and the updated projections say about the path beyond it. Because Warsh is deliberately light on forward guidance, the press conference and statement become the real movers. A dovish hint that the committee can afford to wait into 2027, or a note that a single month of hot data does not change the trend, would relieve pressure and could send stocks and bitcoin higher. Hawkish talk about entrenched inflation, or a signal that two additional hikes remain possible, would do the opposite, lifting the dollar and weighing on risk assets.
The inflation narrative will then be stress-tested again the very next morning. On Thursday, October 29, the Bureau of Economic Analysis releases the advance estimate of third-quarter GDP alongside September personal consumption expenditures, the Fed's go-to inflation measure, and personal income and spending. Growth is expected to print at or slightly above potential, around 2.5 to 2.7 percent annualized, consistent with resilient business investment and steady consumer spending. A number meaningfully above 3 percent would reinforce the view that the Fed has room to keep tightening, a headwind for growth-sensitive assets. PCE matters just as much. Consensus sees core PCE holding somewhere in the high twos on a year-over-year basis. If it comes in at or above 3 percent again, a December hike looks almost certain and markets will price further tightening into 2027. If it surprises lower, expect a relief rally across equities and crypto, as it would mark the September jump as noise rather than a new trend.
Meanwhile, the earnings calendar is stacked in a way that makes this one of the most decision-heavy weeks for the AI and megacap complex all year. Microsoft and Alphabet report after the close on Wednesday, October 28, the same afternoon as the Fed decision. Amazon follows after the bell on Thursday, and Apple wraps the stretch on Monday, November 2. Meta and Tesla have already reported. Together these names dominate the S&P 500. Zacks data shows the market expects the Magnificent Seven to grow third-quarter earnings by about 22.3 percent on a 23.1 percent revenue increase, while S&P 500 earnings overall are expected up roughly 26.2 percent year over year, the eighth straight quarter of double-digit growth, on about 12.2 percent higher revenues. The swing factor is artificial intelligence: after last cycle's explosive spending, investors now reward companies that prove AI capex turns into revenue and returns rather than promising bigger budgets. Any sign that cloud growth, Microsoft's Azure or Alphabet's Google Cloud, or Amazon Web Services is decelerating, or that capex is inflating faster than revenue, could hit the entire tech complex. Conversely, credible AI monetization narratives are the kind of catalyst that lifts sentiment broadly.
So what does this mean for the assets you actually trade? Start with bitcoin. As of this writing, bitcoin is trading near 79,900 USDT, roughly flat over the past day. The recent vibe has been one of consolidation, digesting higher-for-longer rate expectations and a firmer dollar. A dovish Fed plus softer PCE and bullish tech earnings would form a powerful trifecta for risk assets, and bitcoin, which increasingly trades like a high-beta tech asset in risk-on regimes, could see a sharp repricing higher. A hawkish Fed, especially one signaling a December hike is fully locked in, combined with a hot PCE print, raises the risk of renewed selling pressure as liquidity expectations tighten. Because the reaction depends on where expectations were set, watch the scenarios closely rather than assume direction.
Equities face the same fork. The S&P 500 enters the week with two of its largest sector engines, technology and finance, driving earnings. If the Fed holds and sounds patient, and if Microsoft, Alphabet and Amazon confirm AI demand, the setup supports continuation of the uptrend. If the Fed's tone turns hawkish and big tech disappoints on AI monetization, the market is vulnerable to a pullback from current highs, particularly given that the 10-year Treasury yield already stands above 4.6 percent, keeping valuation multiples under pressure.
Gold tells a different but equally interesting story. The metal broke above 4,200 dollars an ounce earlier this fall before pulling back, and it closed last week near 3,995 to 4,000 dollars after a steep weekly decline. The flight has been driven by a stronger dollar and rising real yields, both of which hurt non-yielding bullion. This week's events could set gold's near-term direction. A dovish hold and soft PCE would likely lift gold back toward the 4,050 to 4,100 zone. A hawkish Fed and hot inflation would extend the pullback, though persistent geopolitical uncertainty and record central-bank buying continue to provide a structural floor.
Oil adds a geopolitical overlay that no other asset carries. Brent crude settled around 115 to 117 dollars a barrel late last week, with West Texas Intermediate near 103 to 105 dollars, after attacks on Saudi infrastructure and heightened US-Iran tensions roiled supply expectations. Brent gained on the order of 6 percent in a single week, and the premium over WTI has widened to roughly 13 dollars. For markets, higher energy prices are a double-edged sword: inflationary, which hardens the case for Fed tightening, but also a strain on consumer spending and margins. Every hundred-dollar-plus oil print makes it harder for the Fed to look past inflation, effectively keeping a floor under the hawkish scenario.
The dollar index transmits it all. A hawkish Fed and sticky inflation favor a stronger dollar, which tends to weigh on bitcoin, gold and emerging-market assets. A dovish pivot or cooler PCE would weaken the greenback and let non-dollar assets run. Watch the DXY against the FOMC statement and PCE, since the currency reaction often leads the complex.
Looking ahead to next week, the catalysts continue. On Monday, November 2, the Institute for Supply Management publishes its manufacturing PMI for October, and Apple reports earnings. Tuesday, November 3 brings the US midterm election, which shapes fiscal expectations and usually adds a volatility premium. Later in the week, the ISM services PMI lands on Wednesday, productivity and costs data on Thursday, and the all-important October employment report, nonfarm payrolls, unemployment and wage growth, hits on Friday, November 6. A robust jobs report would cement the December hike expectation; a soft one could rekindle hopes that the Fed is nearly done. The BLS schedule also flags the consumer price index on November 10.
For traders, the practical takeaway is simple. Set your levels around the sessions rather than the headlines. The base case is a hold on Wednesday, a GDP print near 2.5 to 2.7 percent, PCE holding in the high twos, and solid-but-selective tech earnings, pointing to continued churn with a modest risk-on tilt. The optimistic scenario, a dovish hold, cooler PCE and strong AI earnings, is the one most likely to fuel a decisive breakout higher in bitcoin toward prior resistance and lift equities and gold together. The bearish scenario, a hawkish hold, hot PCE and weak megacap guidance, would most likely produce selling pressure across crypto and stocks, push the dollar higher and extend gold's correction. Manage size and remember that the market reacts to the gap between reality and what was already priced, not the raw numbers. Good luck this week.

October 28: Gold Breaks Through $4,030 Resistance—Trend Reversal or Oversold Bounce?
During the U.S. session last night, gold broke straight through the $4,030 level in a single candlestick, reaching a high near $4,065. Gold then traded in a high-level range and closed at $4,060.
During the day yesterday, gold was still trading in the $3,990–$4,030 range. A single strong bullish candle sent prices surging in the evening. Was this reversal a genuine breakout, or merely a misleading oversold bounce? This is the key question the market needs to clarify right now.

The Fed decision drops tonight! A 93% chance of no change, but watch out for one hidden pitfall!
Today, all stock investors should keep an eye on one top priority: the Fed’s rate decision will be officially announced tonight Beijing time! According to the latest CME FedWatch data, the market sees a 92.8% chance of rates staying unchanged, and almost everyone thinks the Fed “definitely won’t raise rates” this time.
Many beginners think: no rate hike = great news, so stocks are about to rise! Let me explain the underlying logic: “no rate hike” has long been priced in by the market. The real risk

$ETH ‌It's been a long time since I properly analyzed Ether. I've been pretty hands-off lately, so today let's take a proper look at Ether's long- and short-term outlook🤔
Let's look at Ether's price action on the 4-hour timeframe. There's a bit of rambling, so please bear with me and read through😕😕😕
The chart clearly shows that highs on the 4-hour timeframe are gradually declining, forming a downtrend structure. This is a typical bearish pattern of lower highs, so the priority when considering a rebound should be a short bias.

Today's setup is clear: look for a rebound first, then seek short opportunities after a move higher.
Before the rate decision, I'm not expecting an immediate sharp selloff. During the day, I'm more inclined to look for support at lower levels, while an upward push is still possible tonight. The selloff window worth watching, in my view, is Friday through next Monday.
Even if a high is set tonight, it may not be followed by an immediate crash; the market may continue to whipsaw. Don't rush to take a large directional position in advance. W

Why do 5-minute and 1-hour candlesticks seem to move in opposite directions?
A 5-minute candlestick records the open, high, low, and close for that 5-minute period; a 1-hour candlestick records the entire hour.
Within an hour, the price may rise sharply and then dip slightly, so it can still be up overall even as the last few 5-minute candles are falling. Different observation windows can show different short-term directions.
Before discussing a trend, clarify the time frame.
When I was just getting started, I also tended to think different charts contradicted each other. I later realized that

Gold Just Reclaimed $4,000 — Here's What Actually Happened and Where It Goes Next
Gold has clawed its way back above the psychologically important $4,000 level, and if you only look at the round number you are missing the real story. Spot XAU/USD is trading near $4,043 per troy ounce as of 2026-10-28 03:59 UTC on Gate's CFD market. That is a rebound of roughly +1.7% off this week's low, but it is still about 14% below the August peak. The question that actually matters is not whether gold can print four thousand again — it already did — but whether this
