#USStocksFaceHistoricSelloff Wall Street had its roughest day in months on 5 November, and the damage was concentrated in the names that carried the AI rally. Closing prints from the Gate feed show the S&P 500 ETF (SPY) at $733.00, down 4.41%, and the Nasdaq 100 ETF (QQQ) at $647.05, down 6.49%. Reuters reported that the Nasdaq 100 fell 6.4% and erased about $2.5 trillion in market value, its deepest one-day drop since "Liberation Day" in April 2025. The sell-off started after the midterm results, when investors began to question how much of the AI data-center buildout could survive a Democrat

Don’t let the numbers mislead you; those figures don’t point to a market collapse, but rather to an entirely different structural mechanism.

The real story lies within a historic wave of selling—triggered in the artificial intelligence and semiconductor sectors following the U.S. midterm elections—that rippled across the Pacific all the way to Seoul. What unfolded on Thursday, November 5, 2026, was more than just a correction; it was a watershed moment—a stress test for the AI trade, challenging both its valuations and the underlying policy landscape.

Just how severe was the sell-off on Wall

The shift from green to red numbers on stock market screens is not the real news; the true story lies in the fundamental mental shift behind that red.

What unfolded in the U.S. markets on Thursday was not merely an ordinary sell-off, but a profound rupture in how the "artificial intelligence trade" is valued and how its risks are perceived. As the Nasdaq closed the day down 5.5%, the semiconductor index suffered its worst performance since 2020, plunging as much as 12% in a single session. Nvidia fell 9%, AMD and Micron dropped 17% each, and Qualcomm slid 12%—altogether, approximately $2.5 trillion in market capitalization evaporated.

What lies on the surface of this sell-off?

The spark was ignited by concerns regarding potential regulations on data centers and AI infrastructure following the election results. Investors began to price in the possibility that the construction of data centers—the backbone of the AI economy—might slow down. According to an analysis by one firm, roughly 30% of the projected data center capacity in the U.S. through 2028 is now at risk due to construction delays. A disappointing earnings outlook from a major chipmaker proved to be the final straw.

However, the core shift is that the AI narrative has evolved from a simple "growth story" into a rigorous test of profitability and financing. Valuations that ballooned during years of low interest rates can no longer be sustained by the same narrative in an environment of high interest rates and tighter financial conditions. The deleveraging process that funds have been undergoing for months was already a clear sign that this mental shift was well underway.

Why couldn't crypto escape this sell-off? The crypto market was not immune to this sell-off. On Thursday morning, Bitcoin was trading above $80,000, only to fall below $76,000 within hours, while Ethereum lost more than 8% of its value. The total crypto market capitalization shrank by approximately $137 billion.

The underlying cause is not merely a deterioration in general risk appetite, but also the tangible link crypto has forged with artificial intelligence infrastructure. Major Bitcoin miners are selling off their holdings to finance AI data centers; consequently, any instability in the data center narrative directly impacts Bitcoin supply and the economics of mining. Leveraged positions turned the decline into a wave of panic selling—roughly $370 million worth of leveraged crypto positions were liquidated in just one hour, the vast majority of which were bullish bets.

Is this a correction, or a new regime?

The market is currently pricing in two distinct scenarios. On one hand, some argue that this is merely a temporary correction—a liquidation of overheated AI-related positions. On the other, some believe that AI valuations remain detached from reality and that this does not represent a buying opportunity.

What matters is not so much which side is correct, but rather recognizing that the market is no longer driven by the same narrative. The triad of valuation, policy, and liquidity is being recalibrated.

The "AI trade" was fueled for years by low interest rates and abundant liquidity; now, high interest rates, tighter financial conditions, and regulatory uncertainty have entered the equation. The fact that 30% of data center capacity is at risk is not merely a construction issue; it is a matter that affects the timing of the entire supply chain.

On the crypto front, the liquidation of assets by miners and the unwinding of leveraged positions illustrate how macro shocks can trigger a chain reaction. In other words, a reassessment of valuations in the artificial intelligence sector can directly impact the supply of Bitcoin.

There is no single answer to whether this wave of selling marks the beginning of the end for the AI trade, or if it is simply a sharp "breather" within a long-term bull market.

What you should monitor is whether valuations are being validated by profitability, how the regulatory framework regarding data center permits takes shape, and whether spot demand emerges once leveraged positions have been cleared out. In the face of macro shocks, the narrative shifts rapidly, but it takes time for the true direction of capital flows to become clear.

BTC | November 6: Today’s strategy

Focus on shorting rebounds today; for now, no longs.

Short at 76500–77000, stop-loss at 77400, target 75800–75200.

If the rebound is weak and price faces resistance near 76500, shorts can also be entered in batches.

If 75150 breaks, look for 74700–74500.

Macro and rationale:

BTC fell rapidly from around 80500, touching a low of 75158. A clear short-term bearish structure has formed. The current consolidation near the lows does not mean the decline is over.

Global stock markets are also under pressure, and risk assets are broadly weak. For now, there is

#Gate推出行业首个资金安全证明
Exchange security has long been measured by a single headline number: reserve ratio. It is a useful number, but it answers only one question. It tells you whether assets exist in amounts that cover liabilities at the moment of measurement. It does not tell you how those assets are stored, who can move them, or how quickly they could be reached in a crisis.

Gate's latest move is to publish a second layer of disclosure. Its new PoSEC system, described as proof of fund security, aims to show how assets are stored and how much of them is protected offline. The announcement repo

Reserves Tell You How Much. PoSEC Asks Where It Sits.
For years, the standard question about an exchange was simple: does it hold enough assets to cover what users are owed? Proof of reserves answered that question, and it still matters. But a reserve ratio says nothing about how those assets are stored. Two exchanges can show identical reserve numbers while keeping very different shares in cold storage, hot wallets or third-party custody. That gap is what Gate is now trying to close.

What Gate announced

Gate has launched what it describes as the industry's first PoSEC, or proof of fund security, system. Where PoR confirms that assets exist and cover liabilities, PoSEC focuses on the storage structure behind those assets and on the coverage available to protect them. Gate's announcement reports cold storage coverage of 104.58% and says 88.26% of stored assets sit in cold storage. It also says an independent third-party audit mechanism has been introduced and that verification is underway.

Those are Gate's own figures. I could not confirm them from an independent source, and the audit is still in progress, so the results should be read as a company disclosure until the audit concludes.

Why cold storage share matters

Hot wallets are connected to the internet and are needed for daily withdrawals. Cold storage keeps keys offline and is far harder to drain through a remote attack. A higher cold-storage share generally means less of user money is exposed to a single compromise. The question for any exchange is not only whether it has the funds, but how many of those funds would be exposed if a hot wallet were breached.

What "coverage above 100%" can and cannot mean

Cold storage coverage above 100% suggests that cold-stored assets exceed the stated liability base that the system measures against. That can be reassuring, but it depends on how the liability base is defined, how often it is updated, and whether it includes every product. A figure is only as useful as its definition, so the methodology matters as much as the headline.

The audit gap is the real test

Any security claim is only as strong as its verification. Gate says an independent third-party audit mechanism is in place and that verification is underway. The key question is what the auditor will examine: wallet control, key management, custody procedures, and the reconciliation between reported and on-chain balances. Users should look for the scope, the auditor's name, the period covered, and whether findings are published in full.

What users should ask any exchange

Reserve ratios are the start of the conversation. Users should also ask for the share of assets in cold storage, the custody arrangements for each asset, how often balances are reconciled, whether an independent auditor has reviewed key management, what happens to user funds in a security incident, and how any insurance or compensation is funded and capped.

The bottom line

PoSEC is a step beyond proof of reserves, because it addresses where assets are kept and how they are protected. Gate's disclosed figures are encouraging, but they are company-reported, and the audit is still in progress. A good exchange should make its security data verifiable, specific and regularly updated, not just impressive at launch.

Democratic Control of Both US Congress Chambers: Political, Economic, and Market Analysis
The Democratic Party has secured majorities in both the House of Representatives and the Senate following the 2026 midterm elections. This shifts the balance of power in Washington for the final two years of the current presidential term, creating a period of divided government. The House of Representatives is the lower chamber of Congress, where all 435 seats were contested. The Senate is the upper chamber, with roughly one-third of its 100 seats up for election. 🛡️ Gate Redefines Crypto Security: Introducing PoSEC — Going Beyond Proof of Reserves!

SanDisk really blindsided those who bought the rally this time! It just posted strong earnings, but its stock plunged 22% in a single day, dropping straight to $806.

What’s even more outrageous is that the results were not bad at all.

Revenue for the latest quarter was $11 billion, up 23% quarter over quarter, while data center revenue grew 61%. The company also announced a $5 billion share buyback and an 8-for-1 stock split.

With so much good news, the market still sold.

The reason is easy to understand. SanDisk had surged too much beforehand, and the market had already priced in AI stora
