Laura Loomer Warns: Lobbyists Are Pressuring Trump’s Circle to Pardon Sam Bankman-Fried
Conservative activist Laura Loomer has issued a warning on platform X (formerly Twitter) about what she calls a “well-funded and highly coordinated campaign” aimed at pressuring Donald Trump’s inner circle to secure a presidential pardon for convicted FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF). According to Loomer, the effort involves conservative consultants, crypto donors, and financially motivated actors seeking to rewrite the narrative surrounding the collapse of FTX.
“A Well-Financed Lobby for SBF’s Pardon” In a March 11, 2025 post, Loomer claimed that figures close to Trump are being actively persuaded to advocate for Bankman-Fried’s release.
“The right is mounting a highly mobilized and well-funded effort to lobby Trump World for a pardon of crypto fraudster @SBF_FTX,” Loomer wrote. “His family members are reportedly working with a firm to convince the Trump administration to pardon SBF.” Loomer called the initiative “deeply disturbing”, arguing that it betrays conservative values to support a figure who was once one of the largest financial backers of the Democratic Party. Before his imprisonment, Sam Bankman-Fried was the second-largest donor to Democrats, right after George Soros, contributing millions of dollars ahead of the 2022 midterm elections.
Federal prosecutors later revealed that many of these donations were made using misappropriated customer funds. In 2024, Bankman-Fried was convicted on multiple counts of fraud and conspiracy, sentenced to 25 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and ordered to forfeit $11 billion.
Loomer: “Media narratives portraying SBF as a victim are part of an influence campaign” In a more recent post, Loomer claimed that efforts to reshape public opinion about SBF have intensified, and that sympathetic media coverage is part of an organized influence campaign. “You’re going to start seeing a lot more positive stories about Sam Bankman-Fried in the news,” Loomer wrote. “There’s a massive, well-funded lobbying effort to secure a pardon for this criminal. He’ll pretend to be a victim of Joe Biden and the Democrats after having funded their campaigns. Don’t fall for it.” She also alleged that certain conservative online influencers have begun to portray Bankman-Fried as a “victim” after reports surfaced that he had been placed in solitary confinement following an interview with Tucker Carlson. Loomer described this shift in tone as part of a deliberate social media influence campaign.
No Public Evidence, but Widespread Impact There are currently no public records or official statements confirming Loomer’s claims of a coordinated lobbying effort.
Neither Trump’s campaign nor Bankman-Fried’s legal team have commented on the allegations. Nevertheless, her accusations have gained traction within conservative circles, sparking a wave of discussion.
Several right-wing commentators echoed her concerns, arguing that granting a pardon to Bankman-Fried would directly contradict Donald Trump’s populist, anti-corruption message. “If Trump were to even consider a pardon for SBF, it would completely undermine his promises to fight corrupt elites,” one conservative analyst wrote in response to Loomer’s post.
Crypto Once Again at the Center of U.S. Politics The controversy highlights how deeply cryptocurrency continues to influence U.S. political dynamics.
While Democrats still face scrutiny over their ties to FTX donations, some Republicans are now being accused of succumbing to similar financial pressures—just from the opposite side. The Bankman-Fried saga thus represents more than the downfall of a crypto exchange. It has become a litmus test for the influence of money and lobbying across both major political parties in the United States.
