Yields retraced by about 5bps along the curve with Oil also settling down. In US markets overnight we saw very weak price action initially before some signs of seller exhaustion in semis and related names. $NVDA led the pack in price action, potentially with them telling JPM that they could have done 100% revenue growth but were held back by supply constraints.
Going into Asia, we had a decent rally in the morning before at 12PM HKT that rumours swirled that the US is preparing tariffs targeting Korean semiconductors. This led to a sell off in $0660 and $5930. Wh

Overnight sour sentiment in risk as Iran escalation comes back to the forefront again. Despite it supposedly to be a "short walk", 6 months on the US is still looking at the same quagmire. The iranian stance notably has softened a fair bit with a focus on negotiation and tit for tat "taps". WTI trades at the highs of the range and this has pushed yields to the highs. While the 30Y is at 5.3%, the 10Y has broken out to 4.81% already.
The crux here is that the market has shown hands to Bessent and is effectively challenging Bessent to show his cards. Markets stop p

22 years ago - the song "Wake me up when September ends" was released. Summer has come and passed. For many market participants looking at seasonality, September has traditionally been a difficult month. I have heard many calls to derisk. Personally i am staying risk on for a few reasons - 1. July was supposed to be a fantastic month, instead we had the worst momentum crash. I suppose seasonality is not working this year. 2. Going into the mid terms, I stand by my stance that Bessent will do everything he can to juice the markets.
Or perhaps we can take a leaf ou

Late into Sunday, US strikes on "L" island gave Asia equities an L. WTI consequently moved higher on the news while yields were somewhat unchanged. E minis opened lower as well.
However as the Asian session got going, early weakness in semis like $0660 were reversed. As of this moment, both $NKY and solana:7Lob7rg43kWwmreuxfSTuohun2atBHCXBUkW6KSfpump are about unchanged for the day. $0660 in particular has traded very firmly since the buybacks news. Early pre market weakness in $SNDK and $MU have also been reversed.
Since last week, we have answered a few questi

Yields inched back up by around 3bps across the curve alongside with crude. Wheat has started a breakout in the food complex. At this point the devaluation trade is running simultaneously in "real" assets.
Yesterday's price action in the US time zone was particularly interesting and also i am certain confusing for many funds. Many of the popular pod trades were taken to the shed and blown up. $NVDA and $IGV were up 7% yesterday with some single name software names up 15%. These tickers were used as short legs and that has probably created alot of pain and degros

Beyond the stellar NVDA guidance, the other thing to note is that pods are probably undergoing huge pain. Semis/memory longs with NVDA shorts and IGV shorts - that entire trade has blown up today. $IGV and $NVDA are both up 7%, squeezing pods to derisk.
In the absence of risk taking pre jackson hole, derisking and positioning flows like this will affect marginal pricing. I would only expect this behavior to clear up next week.
Next, in momentum land - semis is going to exit the basket while software will enter the basket. It is becoming very interesting to me that some

On the road travelling today so this note is coming out much later than usual. Yields are pretty unchanged across the curve. A few important things to talk about today so let's get right down to it.
First - $NVDA earnings . Jenson ripped off the bandaid on gross margins guidance and ackowledged that Memory is going to be a persistent weight given the shortage and the usage of memory in GPUs. (This wont change with Jalapeno etc because they use HBM4....) The price action in $NVDA is telling with it whiplashing down before getting bidded out. $NVDA also guided for 70%
