Victims receive a genuine physical letter that almost perfectly imitates a letter from the IRS (the US tax service), asking them to sign up for a purported “Digital Asset Compliance Portal” by scanning a QR code.
The IRS has confirmed that this portal does not exist and that these letters are fraudulent.
The QR code leads to a fake website designed to collect personal and crypto-related information.

🇫🇷 A couple was held captive and kidnapped in Landes in an attempt to steal their Bitcoin and crypto. Two individuals arrested.
