I used to think things like TVs, routers, and speakers were just what they were when you bought them—the interface, ads, and features were all up to the manufacturer.
After having Claude Code modify the living room TV over the past couple of days, I’ve changed my mind: they’re really just little computers on your home network, and if you can connect to them, you can change them.
I say something, and it changes it:
“ The home screen looks ugly” → Swap in photos of your own cats and dogs, and put your most-used apps at the bottom
“Too many ads” → Change the DNS settings to block ads and data reporting
“A bit laggy” → Stop useless background services and delete apps you don’t use
“Turn off the TV for me” → One sentence on the computer and it’s off
I only had to press the remote a few times the whole time.
What other connected device at home would you most like to customize your way?
