#ETHDrops5.5%
ETH Drops Over 5.5%: What Happened, Where It Can Stabilize, and Key Levels
Ethereum fell hard in the last 24 hours and is trading near 2,239 USDT. The move is larger than the 5.5 percent many people are quoting. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 5.5 percent in its steepest one-day fall in about 18 months, and crypto followed it down. Depending on the window and source, ETH's 24-hour decline is roughly 7.5 to 7.8 percent, and the daily candle opened at 2,424.82 and closed at 2,238.07, a drop of about 7.7 percent. Bitcoin and Solana fell by similar amounts, so this was a market-wide selloff, not an ETH-specific problem.
Why did it fall? My view is that the main driver was macro risk-off plus leverage. Tech stocks sold off sharply, and crypto, which has been trading as a high-beta risk asset, got hit at the same time. Derivatives data reported more than 210 million dollars of ETH liquidations over 24 hours. When price breaks key levels, leveraged longs get force-closed, and those forced sales push price lower again. That is why the drop looked faster than the underlying news flow would justify. The ETH-specific headlines, such as Bitmine approaching 5 percent of circulating ETH and Amundi tokenising a European index fund on Ethereum, are constructive for the long-term story, but they did not drive today's price action. Sentiment has moved into the fear zone.
On the structure, the last seven daily candles show ETH sliding from about 2,425 to 2,238 after a long range between roughly 2,176 and 2,590 since early October. Price is now below the 7-day moving average (about 2,281) and the 30-day moving average (about 2,389), which is bearish in the short term. It is still above the 200-day moving average (about 2,158), so the longer-term trend has not broken. RSI sits near 39, which is weak but not oversold, and MACD is still negative. ADX around 28 suggests the trend has some strength, so this is not a quiet range. Volatility over 7 days is about 4.2 percent per day, so position sizing matters.
Key levels to watch. Resistance sits at about 2,281 (7-day MA and the recent breakdown zone), then 2,343 (Bollinger middle band), 2,389 (30-day MA), and 2,425 (the prior day's close, which is also where the drop began). Support sits at about 2,206 (today's low), 2,176 (the late-October low and the lower end of the range), and about 2,158 (200-day MA). A break below 2,158 would open a deeper move toward the mid-2,000s, while a reclaim of 2,281 would show that buyers are starting to defend the market again.
On whether it can stabilize: I would not call a bottom yet. A stable base usually needs ETH to hold the 2,176 to 2,206 zone for at least a day or two while volume dries up and the Nasdaq stops falling. Until then, rebounds into 2,280 to 2,340 should be treated as tests, not confirmed reversals, because they can get sold into by traders who got trapped on the way down.
Trade ideas with levels, for discussion only and not financial advice. Aggressive buyers could look at entries in the 2,215 to 2,245 zone with a stop loss at SL1 around 2,200, just below the day's low. A break and hold below 2,206 would move the stop to SL2 at about 2,176, and a further loss of 2,158 would trigger SL3 at around 2,150, which is a risk-management line for the thesis. Take-profit targets are TP1 at about 2,281, TP2 at about 2,343, and TP3 at about 2,389. Conservative traders should wait for a daily close back above 2,281 before adding size. Short-side traders can consider rallies into 2,281 to 2,300 with an invalidation above 2,343, targeting 2,206 first and then 2,176.#WCTCS9
