Gate Security Guard introduces an additional layer of account protection for eligible users, with a free activation process and a mechanism to apply for compensation for qualifying direct asset losses caused by unauthorized transfers.

What makes this initiative worth understanding is that Gate has established specific security standards rather than making protection available automatically to every account.

Who Can Activate Gate Security Guard?

Users must meet the following requirements:

- Maintain a Security Score of at least 80.
- Complete KYC 2 identity verification.
- Complete the required security verification.
- Maintain a normal account status and satisfy Gate's risk-control, compliance, and eligible-jurisdiction requirements.

How to Activate It

The process is available directly through the Gate App:

Profile → Security Center → Gate Security Guard.

Eligible users can review their security status and activate the protection plan without paying an activation fee.

However, one detail is particularly important: activation does not mean immediate protection.

After activation, the account enters a Security Hardening period. The Security Score must remain at 80 or above for 30 consecutive days before the status changes to Protection Active. If the score falls below 80, protection is suspended. If the score is restored within 48 hours, the plan returns to the hardening stage, and the 30-day qualification period starts again.

Understanding the Compensation Mechanism

Gate allows eligible users to submit compensation applications for qualifying direct asset losses resulting from unauthorized transfers. However, this is a conditional protection mechanism, not an unconditional reimbursement promise or an insurance policy.

There are important requirements. The account must have Protection Active status when the incident occurs, the required security conditions must have been maintained, and the incident must fall within the plan's covered circumstances.

Users must also submit their application within 45 days, report the incident to local law enforcement within the required period, and provide supporting documentation, including an English copy of the police report. Gate reviews the evidence before making a final decision.

There is another distinction worth remembering: transfers personally initiated, confirmed, or authorized by the account holder are excluded, including transfers made after being deceived or manipulated by another party. Operational mistakes and market-related losses are also outside the plan's coverage.

Why This Matters for Crypto Investors

Security should never become a priority only after an incident. A strong password, Passkey, Google Authenticator, email and phone verification, two-step login, anti-phishing code, fund password, and appropriate withdrawal limits all contribute to a stronger account security environment.

The real value of Gate Security Guard is the additional protection framework it offers to eligible users who maintain the required security standards.
