$ZEC #ZECDropsAround6% 🔎

Zcash (ZEC) has experienced a decline of approximately 9% to 11% over the last 24 hours, falling to the $1,135 level. This pullback is driven not only by general market conditions but also by a wave of heavy leveraged liquidations, as indicated by on-chain data. It appears that an investor purchased approximately 25,000 ZEC on the spot market over a four-day period at an average price of $1,271, while simultaneously opening a long position for about 18,900 ZEC at an average price of $1,378. When the price of ZEC dropped below $1,200, this futures position was fully liquidated (stopped out); combined with the decline in the value of the spot holdings, the total realized loss reached approximately $5.84 million. Such forced exits can temporarily intensify selling pressure in the spot market.

Approaching a Network Update: NU7 and Expectations

Regardless of the price action, the Zcash network is reaching a significant milestone. According to the project’s update roadmap, the "NU7" upgrade is scheduled to go live around November 5, at block height 3,543,405. The most notable impact of this update will be a reduction in the block production interval from approximately 75 seconds to 25 seconds. This change is intended to enhance the efficiency of the privacy-focused payment network by shortening transaction confirmation times. However, it should be noted that this process is not purely a story of one-sided optimism; The requirement to migrate funds from the legacy "Sprout" pool by a specified deadline, alongside disagreements regarding community grants (ZCG), stand out as sources of uncertainty surrounding the update process.

Expanding Use Cases: Access to Mainstream Payment Channels

One of the most tangible steps toward the adoption of Zcash has been the network's integration with the NEAR Intents infrastructure. This integration enables users to conduct ZEC-related transactions via widely used payment channels such as Cash App, PayPal, and Wise. It represents a bridge between a privacy-focused asset and traditional financial networks, reducing friction for fiat-to-crypto (and vice versa) transactions and bolstering the asset's potential for real-world utility. Naturally, the impact of such integrations on price tends to be gradual, contingent upon the pace of user adoption; therefore, short-term price sensitivity may remain limited.

On-Chain Activity: The Sustainability of Rising Transaction Volume

Data on network usage points to a notable surge. The number of weekly Zcash transactions has increased nearly fourfold—climbing from approximately 28,000 to nearly 120,000—with on-chain transfer volumes and balances within the "shielded pool" growing in tandem. Should this trend prove durable, it could be interpreted as a strong indicator of underlying demand for privacy-centric assets. However, it is important to note that some of this activity may stem from short-term speculative trading; consequently, future data should be monitored to assess long-term sustainability. Imbalance in Return Distribution and the Risk of Overcrowding

Data from Bitwise’s institutional research highlights the highly selective nature of returns in 2026. While the median year-to-date return for the top 20 crypto assets sits at -15%, the group average rises to +14%—a shift driven by strong performers like HYPE and ZEC. This indicates that returns are concentrated within a select few assets, with ZEC among those leading the pack. However, the same data suggests an increased risk of "overcrowding" and a potential "mean reversion" for such high-performing assets.

Implications for Individual Investors: Dissecting the Layers

The current landscape for ZEC consists of several distinct layers: short-term volatility driven by leverage, medium-term anticipation surrounding network upgrades, long-term prospects for broader adoption, and its position within the institutional return distribution. Since each of these layers operates according to its own unique dynamics, focusing on a single day or a solitary data point can be misleading. A sound approach for investors is to monitor these developments holistically and act in alignment with their own personal risk tolerance.

Short-term bearish, long-term bullish. Still optimistic about ZEC; still can't give up
