Strategy STRC Nears 100 Par Value - Why 100 Matters For Next BTC Buy

STRC, the variable rate Series A perpetual preferred of Strategy, trades at 99.92, 99.88, 99.95 in recent prints, just 5 to 8 cents below its 100 par. High mark is 99.36, best in about five months and first time near 100 in over 165 days. Low in June was 71.25. Quarterly gain is about 14% from late July low.

This 100 line is not cosmetic. Company policy bars new STRC issue below par. When price holds below 100, firm buys back. When price holds at or above 100, firm can sell new shares via at the market program to raise cash for BTC buys.

Recent flow shows how firm defends the peg. Filing on Oct 26 showed 193.1 million USD of buybacks last week at average 99.60, within 0.4% of par. Over two weeks, buyback spend was about seven times more than BTC spend. Prior guide said buybacks will slow as price nears 100. Quote from filing: We intend to remain a regular, disciplined buyer below 100. More at deeper discounts, less as STRC nears 100.

Dividend is key to peg. Rate is reset monthly by board to keep price near 100. Rate was lifted to 12% annualized during summer slump. Oct 15 record date and Oct 28 vote on daily payout now decide if 12% holds.

Why market watches 100?

Last time STRC regained par on Jan 6, the at the market program was restarted next business day to buy Bitcoin. VanEck head of digital asset research Matthew Sigel flagged same pattern. Polymarket odds now give 78% chance of STRC hitting 100 by year end.

If STRC holds above 100, Strategy can replace buybacks with new issuance, reopening a funding channel that was shut for months. As of Oct 25, firm holds 848,500 BTC and about 5.1 billion USD in other assets, with MSTR trading near 141 USD. New STRC issuance would give fresh cash to add BTC without tapping common stock at weak price.

Risk view: STRC is engineered to trade near 100 via adjustable payout, but summer drop to 71.25 showed peg can break under stress. If BTC falls again or rate view shifts, STRC could slip. If BTC holds and fee income stays firm, odds of sustained print above 100 rise.

Trader read: Watch close. Print at 99.92 to 99.95 with volume and hold above 100 for two sessions would be signal that issuance window reopens. That would likely lift BTC buy talk and support MSTR. Fail to hold 100 and slip back to 99.36 to 98.65 keeps buyback mode on, with less cash for BTC.

For now, 100 is the line that turns STRC from cash use to cash source, and that switch decides if Strategy resumes BTC buys.
