Gate has started beta testing weekend trading for gold contracts for difference, offering a seven day schedule. The new window runs twenty three hours a day. Trading pauses for one hour each day between five and six in the morning, UTC plus eight. For now, this feature is available only to selected users.

A contract for difference lets you trade the price movement of gold without owning the metal itself. Extending the schedule into the weekend means you do not have to wait until Monday to adjust positions when news breaks. I find this change very practical for active management. More trading hours simply give you more choices. Having the ability to trade does not mean you must trade. It just makes adjusting your plan easier when you need to.

Markets are watching how liquidity holds up during these extra hours. If weekend volume is thin, spreads may widen. If the beta runs smoothly, this extended window may become a standard feature.

I am holding my positions and watching the market. How do you plan to use this extra weekend time for your own strategy. This is not financial advice. #GateGoldCFD

The 5–6 UTC+8 pause falls right before the Asian session opens—an interesting design choice

Gate's move is pretty aggressive: traditional gold markets close on weekends, while it gets a head start

With 23-hour trading, is the 1-hour pause for the system to catch its breath or for traders to grab coffee?

If liquidity can’t keep up, widening the spread could backfire, so it’s best to wait and see for now

Being able to adjust positions over the weekend is indeed convenient, especially when you're worried about a gap on Monday
