The US Dollar Index is trading near 101.65, down for a third straight session. This follows the Federal Reserve decision on October 28 to hold rates at 3.75 to 4.00 percent. Two officials voted for a hike, but Chair Kevin Warsh gave no clear signal for December. Markets read his silence as dovish, and the dollar weakened during his press conference.

The moves are visible across major pairs. The dollar trades near 157.41 yen and 0.8235 Swiss francs. Against the Canadian dollar it sits near 1.3947. The euro holds near 1.1172. In emerging markets, the dollar is near 49.94 Turkish lira, 16.71 South African rand, and 9.82 Swedish krona. The dollar is also near 7.8448 Hong Kong dollars and 6.6532 offshore yuan.

For you, this matters because a softer dollar changes the cost of imports and the returns on overseas investments. The dollar index has stayed rangebound between 101 and 103 this month, supported by a still hawkish Fed and persistent inflation. Analysts at DBS note that no strong catalyst has yet pushed it outside that range.

Markets are watching the next inflation data and the December meeting. If price pressures ease, the dollar may stay soft. If energy costs keep rising, the case for a hike may return and support the currency. I am holding my positions and watching the market. Which pair matters most to you here.
