🎃 #GateSquareHalloween | MSFT — Microsoft's Earnings Scare Was a Treat in Disguise

There is no better Halloween story in big tech this week than Microsoft. The company served up a treat — a beat-and-raise quarter — yet the stock initially acted like it had been spooked. Let's cut through the noise: what really happened, where the stock is heading, and exactly how I'm playing it.

📊 The Earnings Report (FY27 Q1, reported Oct 29)
Microsoft beat on both lines. Revenue came in at $92.28B vs. roughly $90.7B expected, up 19% year over year. EPS landed at $4.93 vs. roughly $4.72 expected. Net income rose 32% YoY to a record $37B. The crown jewel: Azure grew 48% YoY to a record ~$33B, accelerating and beating estimates. IBD even crowned MSFT "Stock of the Day," and 16 analysts raised their targets within two days, with zero cuts.

🔍 So Why Did the Stock Dip?
This is the key lesson, and it is not a reason to panic. On Oct 29, MSFT opened near $540, spiked to $541.29, then gave back the gains to close near $530.43, and was trading around $526 in pre-market on Oct 30. Three forces drove the pullback: (1) Sell-the-news — expectations were already sky-high and the bar had been raised before the print; (2) a $25B corporate bond offering announced the same week (Microsoft's first major US investment-grade bond sale in nearly a decade) to fund AI capex, which briefly overhangs supply and adds small dilution optics; and (3) profit-taking across mega-cap tech. The dip is a trading event, not a thesis-breaker.

📍 Key Levels
- Support: $519–520 (the Oct 29 low) is the first line in the sand; below that, $515.70 (Oct 23 low) and $521.82 (Oct 26 low) form a shelf where buyers have repeatedly stepped in.
- Pivot: $530–532 (prior close and the VWAP zone) is the battleground.
- Resistance: $541–545 (recent October highs) is the immediate ceiling. A decisive daily close above $545 opens the door to $551 (the mid-Oct intraday high) and then the psychological $575–600 zone.

📈 Momentum & RSI Sentiment
Momentum is bullish but stretched. ADX sits near 37, signalling a strong, trending market, while the MACD histogram is expanding positive with upward direction on the 30m and 90m charts. RSI territory is elevated, which is exactly why the stock pulled back after the pop — the market needed to cool off before resuming its climb. My read: this is healthy consolidation inside a strong uptrend, not a top.

💼 Long vs Short
Long (my bias): The fundamental story is intact and improving — accelerating cloud/AI growth, net-margin expansion, and a fortress balance sheet to fund the buildout. I would look to add longs on a close above $545 or on dips into $519–522 with defined stops below $515. Consensus analyst targets moved to roughly $651, implying ~22% upside from $530.
Short: Not advised as a base case — betting against a beat-and-raise with accelerating Azure is fighting the tape. If you must hedge, only do so into the $545–551 resistance with very tight risk, and never into heavy support.

🎯 The Plan
1) Above $545: breakout continuation, targets $551 → $575+. 2) $530–545: neutral consolidation — wait for a clear break before committing. 3) Below $519: caution, reassess the setup. Keep strict stop discipline; nothing here changes the structural bull case.#USEarningsSeason
