Bitcoin holds the line at 80000 after a sharp wash that tested bull resolve.

Current tape: open near 80546, high 81971, low 79710, last print near 81248. Prior two sessions tried to lift above 82000 and failed. That failure turned 80000 into the main pivot for short term trade. Daily close near 81287 kept price above prior resistance box 80919 to 81101, but upside remains heavy.

Macro driver is clear. Federal Reserve held rates steady with a hawkish tilt, with two votes pushing for hike. Risk assets wobbled. Uptick in US real yield and firm dollar added pressure. For crypto, this backdrop means liquidity stays tight and traders stay defensive.

Flow picture adds color. US spot Bitcoin ETFs posted a third straight day of small inflow, around 1.3 million USD on the day of the hold, yet price still slipped. Glassnode data shows average cost for ETF holders near 81500. Each bounce toward that area meets holders eager to exit at break even. That overhead caps rallies. On chain, price sits wedged between ETF cost above and short term holder cost below.

Derivatives show stress flushed. About 150 million USD of long positions were wiped in two hours when price hit 79145 on Saturday. Another 69 million USD of longs were cut in last 24 hours. Funding reset toward flat, open interest fell, a sign that excess long leverage was trimmed. This clean up can set base for next leg if spot bid holds.

Technical map is now well defined.

Support: 79500 to 79800 first, then 77700 to 78000. Below that, 75000 to 76000 is next major shelf where prior consolidation formed. Lose 79500 with high volume and daily close below, and risk of deeper sweep toward 75000 rises.

Resistance: 80919 to 81101 first, then 81300 to 82000. Break and hold above 82000 with strong volume opens path toward 88000 to 90000. Fail near 81500 and rejection stays the core risk.

Historical context matters. October closed near 80000, down about 4% for month, a second straight red October. Long run average for October is +26% since 2010, a record that built the Uptober tag. This year broke that pattern. From early October top near 126000 to low near 80000, drop exceeded 36%. After that, Bitcoin fell another 17.5% in November in prior cycle data, a reminder that momentum can stay weak after sharp top.

Trader playbook for this battle:
1. Hold scenario: Price holds above 80000 on high spot volume, funding stays flat to low, ETF inflow stays positive, and daily closes stay above 81287. That mix favors long side with tight risk below 79500, aiming for 82000, then 88000. 2. Lose scenario: Price closes below 79500 with volume expansion and ETF flow flips to outflow. That mix favors short side or stay flat, with first target 78000, then 76000.
Risk control is key. Use small size, wide enough stop below 79500 to avoid noise, and watch funding. Avoid chasing long near 81500 cost zone. Wait for break and retest of 82000 for safer entry.

What to watch next: Fed tone and PCE data, ETF flow data, spot volume on retests of 80000, and liquidation map. If volume rises on up days and falls on down days, base building is real. If volume rises on down moves, more flush likely.

For now, 80000 is more than a round figure. It is a line where spot demand, ETF cost, and leverage wash meet. How price acts here will set tone for rest of quarter.
