Bitcoin is currently trading near 79800 to 80100 dollars after the Federal Open Market Committee held interest rates steady on October 28. The price has declined roughly 1.5 to 1.8 percent over the past 24 hours from the previous close near 81250 to 81500 dollars.
In the minutes following the announcement Bitcoin briefly spiked as high as 81600 to 81700 dollars, representing a short lived gain of about 0.7 to 1.0 percent from the pre announcement level, before sellers stepped in and reversed the move lower. The 24 hour range stretched from approximately 79600 dollars on the downside to 81700 dollars on the upside, a volatility band of nearly 2.6 percent
Looking at the chart pattern that has developed around this move, Bitcoin has been moving inside a descending channel on the lower timeframes while also forming what some analysts describe as a bull flag structure on the daily chart. The lower boundary of the recent range sits near 78000 to 79600 dollars, an area that has acted as support multiple times in the past two weeks. The upper boundary of the flag and the nearest resistance cluster sits between 81100 and 81800 dollars. After the FOMC decision the price tested the upper end of this range, failed to hold above 81000 dollars for more than a few hours, and then pulled back toward the middle and lower portion of the structure. This rejection from the 81500 to 81700 dollar zone after the rate decision has left the market in a state of indecision exactly at the psychological 80000 dollar level
The reaction after the FOMC meeting was classic risk off behavior once the initial relief faded. Although the committee kept the federal funds rate in the 3.75 to 4.00 percent range by a 10 to 2 vote, the statement highlighted that inflation remains elevated and two members preferred a quarter point increase.
Markets interpreted this as a hawkish hold. Bitcoin’s quick reversal from the 81700 dollar high down through 81000 dollars and into the 79800 to 80100 dollar zone reflected that shift in sentiment. Spot Bitcoin exchange traded funds recorded mixed flows, and leveraged long positions faced liquidations that accelerated the decline by roughly 1.8 percent from the intraday peak
For traders focused on the ongoing battle around 80000 dollars the next key levels are clearly defined. A sustained reclaim and hold above 80000 dollars followed by a daily close above 81100 to 81200 dollars would signal that buyers have regained control of the short term structure. From the current price near 79900 dollars that would represent a gain of approximately 1.4 to 1.6 percent just to reclaim the level, and a further 1.5 to 2.0 percent move to clear the 81200 dollar resistance. If that breakout occurs with rising volume the measured move from the bull flag pattern points toward 84500 to 85000 dollars, which would deliver a potential 5.5 to 6.5 percent advance from the 80000 dollar battle zone
On the downside, failure to hold 80000 dollars and a break below the recent swing low near 79600 dollars would open the path toward the stronger support cluster at 78000 to 78500 dollars. A move from 80000 dollars down to 78000 dollars equals a 2.5 percent decline, while a deeper test of 76000 dollars would represent a 5.0 percent drop. The 78000 dollar area also aligns with the lower boundary of the larger channel and the short term holder cost basis mentioned by several on chain analysts, making it a critical line for bulls to defend
Practical entry considerations around the 80000 dollar battle focus on confirmation rather than anticipation. Conservative long entries would wait for a clear reclaim of 80000 dollars on the four hour or daily chart with volume expansion, targeting first the 81100 to 81500 dollar zone for a 1.4 to 1.9 percent move and then the 84500 dollar measured target. Aggressive traders watching the lower support may look for bounce setups near 79600 to 79800 dollars with tight stops below 79000 dollars, risking roughly 1.0 to 1.2 percent for a potential move back to 80000 and higher.
Short entries become more attractive only on a confirmed daily close below 79600 dollars, with initial targets at 78000 dollars for a 2.0 to 2.5 percent decline and secondary targets lower if momentum accelerates
The broader context remains important. Over the past seven days Bitcoin is down approximately 1.7 to 3.2 percent depending on the exact starting point, while the thirty day performance shows a decline of about 4.5 to 5.0 percent from the early October high near 86500 dollars. The one year change still stands roughly 27 to 29 percent lower from the November 2025 peak near 110000 dollars, and the all time high of approximately 126000 dollars reached in October 2025 remains more than 36 percent above current prices. These longer term percentages underline that the market is still working through a corrective phase even while short term traders fight over the 80000 dollar level
In summary, the chart after the FOMC decision shows a classic rejection from the upper end of a descending channel and bull flag structure, followed by a pullback that has placed the entire market focus on the 80000 dollar zone. The next decisive move will likely come from either a confirmed reclaim of that level with follow through above 81100 dollars or a breakdown below 79600 dollars that targets the 78000 dollar support. Until one of those outcomes materializes the battle continues, and traders who respect the percentage based risk levels around these clear price points will be best positioned for whatever direction ultimately prevails.#GateSquareHalloween
