Fed Decision: How Might BTC, U.S. Stock Markets, and Gold Be Affected?
For the markets, the most significant factor is not necessarily the Fed’s interest rate decision itself, but rather the extent to which the decision surprises the market relative to existing expectations. If the anticipation of an interest rate cut is already "priced in," the cut alone may not be enough to drive an increase in the value of Bitcoin or gold. The signals the Fed provides regarding the coming months may prove more decisive.
1. Potential Scenarios for the Fed
Dovish signal — positive for risk assets
A strong indication that interest rates may fall in the future could push the dollar and bond yields lower. This could provide support for BTC and U.S. stocks, while gold might also rise if real yields decline.
Decision in line with expectations — volatile trend
If the Fed keeps interest rates unchanged and offers no new forward guidance, markets may shift their focus toward upcoming economic data. Following an initial reaction, profit-taking could occur.
Hawkish signal — risk of downward pressure
A message suggesting that interest rates will remain high for an extended period—due to inflation concerns—could drive the dollar and bond yields higher. In this scenario, BTC, technology stocks, and gold could all face downward pressure simultaneously.
Based on current news flow, the market expects interest rates to remain unchanged in the upcoming decision (scheduled for October 28); however, concerns regarding inflation keep the possibility of future interest rate hikes on the table.
2. Bitcoin: Sustaining a Position Above $80,000
BTC/USD
Critical psychological level: $80,000
After a brief dip to approximately $79,500 on October 27, Bitcoin recovered to move back above $80,000. This indicates that the level has not yet been decisively broken. * Bullish scenario: Sustaining a position above $80,000 and breaking through the $82,000–$84,000 zone could lead to a retest of the $85,000–$87,000 range.
* Sideways scenario: Consolidation within the $80,000–$84,000 range may persist; investors might remain cautious about opening new positions ahead of the Fed’s announcements.
* Bearish scenario: Failing to hold above $80,000 could increase the risk of a pullback toward the $78,000–$79,000 zone.
Key signal to watch: It is not enough to simply rise above $80,000; a daily close above this level, supported by sufficient trading volume, is essential.
3. Gold: Where to next after $4,000?
Gold / ounce
Psychological threshold: $4,000
Gold climbed to approximately $4,010 per ounce on October 26; however, the sharp sell-off seen the previous week suggests that the upward momentum is not yet on solid ground.
* Bullish scenario: Holding above $4,000, combined with declining real interest rates, could pave the way for a recovery toward the $4,100–$4,200 range.
* Neutral scenario: A strong dollar and ambiguous signals from the Fed could cause the price to fluctuate between $3,900 and $4,100.
* Bearish scenario: If interest rates remain high for an extended period and the dollar continues to strengthen, the $4,000 support level could be lost once again. 4. US Stock Markets: Specifically Technology Stocks
On October 27, the S&P 500 rose by approximately 0.6%, while the Nasdaq climbed 1.2%. However, this rally was not broad-based; it was driven primarily by stocks linked to artificial intelligence.
* Dovish Fed: The Nasdaq and growth stocks could benefit from lower discount rates.
* Hawkish Fed: A rise in bond yields could put pressure on technology stocks, particularly those with high valuations.
* Decision in line with expectations: Market direction may be shaped more by corporate earnings and economic data than by the Fed’s decision itself.
My short-term assessment:
BTC: Sustained stability above $80,000 needs to be confirmed. While an upward breakout is possible, volatility stemming from the Fed remains high.
US Stocks: Technology stocks, which are sensitive to interest rate expectations, may show a more pronounced initial reaction to the Fed’s decision.
Gold: Maintaining the $4,000 level is critical. While demand for a "safe haven" may provide support, high real interest rates could limit further gains.
Key takeaway: It is possible for all three assets to rise or fall simultaneously. To gauge the initial market reaction, one should monitor not only the Fed’s announcement but also the US Dollar Index (DXY) and the 10-year Treasury yield.
