#GoldReclaims4000 #Gate广场万圣节 ‌Gold at $4,036 Has Won Back the Round Number, but the Chart Says the Real Test Starts at $4,075

Gold held above $4,000 on Tuesday, dipping to $3,989 before rebounding more than 1% and closing near $4,061. Today it trades at $4,036, about 0.6% below that close, hours before the Fed decision at 2:00 p.m. ET (02:00 Beijing on October 29). Reclaiming a round number is not the same as reclaiming a trend. Last week gold lost about 4% and touched $3,975 on October 23, its lowest level since July, so the question is how much room this bounce has.

The bigger picture: still deep in repair territory

Gold sits about 28% below its January 29 record near $5,602, down 7% to 8% for the year and 3.8% below its October 9 close of $4,194. At the start of October, the 50-day average was near $4,322 and the 200-day near $4,539, roughly 7% and 12.5% above today's price. A descending trendline from the January peak is still overhead, and gold has fallen through the 61.8% Fibonacci retracement of the summer advance near $4,231 and the next one near $4,121. The $4,000 area is the floor the whole structure is leaning on.

The short-term read
Tuesday formed a bullish harami that was confirmed when price cleared October's 23-day high at $4,034. Momentum is recovering, with the 4-hour RSI back from oversold to the mid-30s and the 4-hour MACD above zero and rising. But the daily RSI is still bearish, and price remains below the 9-day EMA near $4,067 and the 20-day EMA near $4,122. Analysts note the picture stays bearish until gold prints a higher high.

The levels ladder from $4,036
Resistance:
- $4,065 to $4,075 (+0.7% to +1.0%): the breakpoint of the broken trading range
- $4,100 to $4,106 (+1.6% to +1.7%): the old support area that may now act as resistance
- $4,122 (+2.1%): the 20-day EMA
- $4,194 to $4,198 (+3.9% to +4.0%): the October 9 close and the 4-hour 200-period average

Support:
- $4,000 (-0.9%): the psychological floor
- $3,989 (-1.2%): Tuesday's low
- $3,975 (-1.5%): the October 23 low
- $3,941.76 (-2.3%): the June 30 low, the key level below

Reclaiming $4,075 to $4,106 would suggest sellers are losing control. Failing there would leave the move as a bounce inside a downtrend.

Rate expectations: the main driver

A hold is priced near 91% today, with a December hike near 80%, and there is no dot plot this month, so Chair Warsh's tone decides the message. With the 10-year at 4.99% and September CPI at 3.7%, the real yield is about 1.3%, which raises the opportunity cost of holding a metal that pays nothing. The dollar index near 102.4 has gained three days in a row. A softer message could push the dollar toward 100.50, a level analysts say would support gold. A hawkish one could lift the dollar and send gold back to $3,975.

Oil, the hidden lever

Gold rose more than 1% on Tuesday even as yields and the dollar firmed, because falling oil eased inflation fears and the odds of tighter policy. That makes oil, not just the Fed, a driver. If crude rebounds, the same chain works in reverse.

Safe-haven and structural demand

Stalled US-Iran talks and renewed Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia keep a geopolitical premium in place. Beneath that, China's central bank added 23 tonnes in September and global gold ETFs drew about $10 billion that month, according to the World Gold Council. A Reuters survey shows analysts cutting 2026 forecasts for a second straight quarter because of high yields and a strong dollar, though they still see a recovery in 2027. Demand is supportive, but yields are the headwind.

Cross-market signal

The Nasdaq rose 1.18% to 26,478 and the S&P 500 gained 0.60% to 7,722.60 on Tuesday, so gold and equities rose together on lower oil. That pairing is fragile, since it relies on the Fed not disrupting it. Thursday's GDP, forecast near 3.0% to 3.2%, and September PCE, with core forecast at 3.1%, are the next tests, followed by the Bank of Japan on Friday.

How far can this rally go?

The first realistic target is $4,065 to $4,075 (+0.7% to +1.0%). Above it, $4,100 to $4,122 (+1.6% to +2.1%) is the next barrier, and the zone near $4,195 (+4%) is the ceiling of this recovery. Beyond that, the 50-day average and the January trendline are far off, about 7% above price. A daily close back below $4,000, especially under $3,975, would invalidate the bounce and put the June low at $3,941.76 in play.
Gold has won back the number. Winning back the trend needs a higher high, a calmer dollar and a Fed that does not push real yields higher. @Gate_Square
