Gate says it is the first in the industry to offer gold CFD (XAUUSD) trading 23 hours a day, seven days a week, now in beta for select customers. The point is not just an extra session to open positions. Weekends also let eligible users close positions as planned and manage open positions and orders. Gold trades at $4,042 today, about 1.7% above last Friday's $3,975 low, the weakest since July, and hours away from a Fed decision. That is exactly the kind of market where hours matter.
What is new
- Schedule: 06:00 to 05:00 the next day (UTC+8), with trading paused 05:00 to 06:00. That is 22:00 to 21:00 UTC, or 6 p.m. to 5 p.m. ET now and 5 p.m. to 4 p.m. ET after US clocks change on November 1.
- Weekends: the daily pause is only one hour, so Saturday and Sunday each get the same 23-hour session.
- Weekend leverage: the maximum for newly opened positions is 50x.
- Access: select customers only. Check your account page for what is displayed.
- Scope: XAUUSD gold CFD only. It is price exposure, not ownership of physical gold.
Why timing matters in this market
Gold closed near $4,194 on October 9, lost about 4% last week and touched $3,975 on October 23. It is about 28% below its January record near $5,600 and down roughly 7% to 8% this year. On Tuesday it fell to $3,989, then rebounded more than 1% to about $4,061 as oil retreated, a range of about 1.8% in one session. Wednesday's Asian trade eased back near $4,050.
The weekend window
Conventional gold markets close on Friday and reopen Sunday evening (UTC), so news in between used to go unanswered. The coming weekend, October 31 to November 1, follows the Fed decision, Thursday's GDP and PCE, and Friday's Bank of Japan decision. It also leads into the November 3 US midterms, with Gulf diplomacy and oil headlines still moving. The new window gives eligible users more ways to act: open or close a position on schedule, adjust a stop or reduce size without waiting for Monday.
Technical map from $4,042
- Resistance: $4,060 (+0.4%), $4,075 to $4,080 (+0.8% to +0.9%), $4,100 (+1.4%), and the 20-day EMA near $4,122 (+2.0%)
- Support: $3,989 (-1.3%), $3,975 (-1.7%), $3,943 to $3,941 (-2.4% to -2.5%), the year's low
Tuesday's candle confirmed a bullish harami and cleared October's 23-day high of $4,034, which helps buyers. But RSI is still bearish and price remains below the 20-day average, so the bounce is not yet a trend change.
What drives gold during extended hours
- The Fed: a hold is priced at about 91% for 2:00 p.m. ET today (02:00 Beijing, October 29). A December hike is priced near 80%, so the chair's tone matters more than the rate.
- Real yields: the 10-year at 4.99% against 3.7% CPI leaves a real yield near 1.3%, a headwind for gold.
- Dollar: the dollar index near 102.4 is firm after three days of gains.
- Oil: falling oil lifted gold on Tuesday even as yields rose, since lower energy prices ease inflation and hike fears. A Reuters survey shows analysts cutting 2026 gold forecasts for a second straight quarter on high yields, a strong dollar and rates staying higher for longer.
- Gulf risk: tensions keep safe-haven demand alive and can move oil, and gold, over a weekend.
Long, short and the leverage math
XAUUSD CFDs let traders take positions on a rise or a fall. Leverage works against you at the same speed. Margin is erased by a move of 1 divided by the leverage:
- At 50x, 2%, about $81 at $4,042
- At 20x, 5%, about $202
- At 10x, 10%, about $404
Tuesday's 1.8% range would consume about 90% of the margin at 50x, and last week's 4% decline would exceed the margin twice over. Extra hours also mean extra exposure, and weekend liquidity and spreads can differ from weekday conditions. More flexible trading hours call for better position management and appropriately sized positions.
Access and availability
The feature is available only to selected beta users. Verify your own eligibility, hours and leverage on your account page, and use the beta feedback channel in Gate's announcement. Do not assume it is universally available.
The takeaway
Gate's real change is not another gold product but time: the chance to manage a gold CFD through the weekend, when headlines still arrive. In a market that fell 4% in a week and can swing 1.8% in a day, extra time helps only when size and risk are set in advance.
CFDs are high-risk leveraged products and do not represent ownership of physical gold. This post is for discussion only and is not investment advice.
