Gold reclaims $4,000, but the next resistance will determine whether the recovery has real strength.
As of October 28, 2026, spot gold has rebounded from its recent dip below $4,000 and is trading around $4,060 per ounce. The recovery shows that buyers are defending the psychological support zone, but the broader technical structure has not yet confirmed a complete bullish reversal. With the Federal Reserve decision approaching, gold is entering a session where monetary policy expectations could determine its next major move.
The key levels that matter now
The first immediate resistance sits around $4,064–$4,066. A sustained breakout above this zone could open the way toward $4,073, followed by $4,100–$4,112. That higher resistance area is particularly important because a convincing move above it would strengthen the recovery and suggest that buyers are regaining control beyond the short-term rebound.
On the downside, $4,054 is an important near-term support for the current recovery. If sellers push price below this level, attention shifts toward $4,033–$4,030. A deeper decline could bring $4,017 and $3,989 back into focus, while a break beneath the recent swing-low region around $3,976 would increase the risk of another bearish leg. If selling accelerates, the broader downside scenario could eventually extend toward $3,870.
What could drive the next move?
The Federal Reserve decision on October 28 is the main event risk. The policy statement is scheduled for 18:00 UTC, followed by the press conference at 18:30 UTC. The decision itself matters, but the Fed’s guidance on future rates and inflation could be even more influential.
A less hawkish message, a weakening US dollar, or falling Treasury yields could support gold by reducing the opportunity cost of holding a non-yielding asset. Continued safe-haven demand could provide additional support. However, stronger dollar momentum, rising yields, or expectations of tighter monetary policy could limit the recovery and bring sellers back into the market.
Time-by-time trading outlook — UTC
Before 18:00 UTC, the $4,054–$4,066 zone deserves close attention. A confirmed breakout above resistance would favor a test of $4,073 and potentially $4,100. Failure to break higher could leave gold vulnerable to a pullback toward $4,033–$4,030.
From 18:00 to 18:30 UTC, the initial Fed reaction may create sharp volatility and false breakouts. Support and resistance should be reassessed after the announcement rather than assuming the first price movement will determine the session’s direction.
After 18:30 UTC, the press conference may reinforce or reverse the initial reaction. Sustained acceptance above $4,066 would improve the bullish case, while a confirmed break below $4,030 would weaken the recovery and expose lower support levels.
These are conditional scenarios, not guaranteed price targets. The levels are technical reference points, and execution should depend on confirmed price action.
My market bias
Gold has an opportunity to extend its rebound, but reclaiming $4,000 alone is not enough to establish a new uptrend. Buyers need to break through $4,066 and then challenge the $4,100–$4,112 resistance zone. Until that happens, the move remains a recovery within a broader corrective structure.
The most important signal today will be whether gold can convert resistance into support after the Fed announcement. A successful breakout could restore bullish momentum, while another rejection could send the market back toward $4,000 and potentially lower.
The priority is confirmation, disciplined risk management, and avoiding impulsive entries during the Fed-driven volatility.
