Can BTC hold 80K” is really three questions running on three different clocks: price, flows and derivatives. Here’s how I’d read each one.
1. The price clock: support keeps stepping down
BTC is 79,764 on my chart, 3.7% below the 82,819 I saw on October 22 (my math). The marked support has migrated from 80,228 to 79,880 to 79,597 over six days, about 0.8% lower (my math), so 80K isn’t a fixed floor so much as a moving one. RSI is 40.4, and the MACD histogram is -378, back to where it was on October 20.
2. The flow clock: mixed, and concentrated
Spot ETFs saw roughly $772M of outflows across two sessions last week, then a $110M inflow on Monday that came from one fund while the others showed zero. One tally has October at about -$314M so far (single-source). Flows are a headwind but not a one-way story.
3. The derivatives clock: not crowded, but heavy
Open interest is about $54B, and funding is about 0.0067% per eight hours, roughly 7% annualized against about 33% at the 0.03% level that usually flags crowded longs (my math). So leverage isn’t extreme. But of $154M liquidated over 24 hours, $118M were longs, about 77% (my math). The October 30 options expiry is about $12B, roughly 23% of open interest and about 153,000 BTC (my math), and one note flags negative-gamma dealer positioning (single-source). That combination can amplify moves in either direction.
4. The macro clock
Futures pricing shows about a 90% chance the Fed holds on October 28 at 18:00 UTC. So the surprise isn’t the rate, it’s the tone, followed by GDP and PCE on October 29 at 12:30 UTC. The expiry lands on the 30th.
5. Levels (from my screenshot)
Support at 79,598: -0.2%
50-day at 81,825: +2.6%
Resistance at 84,120: +5.5%
My marked levels: 77,020 (-3.4%) and 75,500 (-5.3%)
99-day at 75,868: -4.9%
200-day at 73,029: -8.4%
To 84,120 versus 77,020, the reward/risk is about 1.6:1 (my math). A reclaim of 80,000 means little unless BTC closes above the 81,825 average.
6. If-then plan
Daily close above 81,825: the battle shifts toward 84,120.
Chop between 79,600 and 81,800 through the expiry: the base case.
Daily close below 79,598: 77,020 is next, then 75,500–75,868.
My take: I’m treating 79,598 as the line and 81,825 as the proof. Because the Fed, PCE and the expiry land within about 72 hours, I’d rather keep size smaller until Friday, since fills get messy when three catalysts stack.
Not financial advice.
Do you read 80K as a real floor or just a number the market keeps testing? And what would you need to see first: a close above 81,825 or a hold of 79,598 through Friday?
