Good morning.
Microsoft closely today. The company reports earnings after the market closes. Wall Street expects revenue of about 90.6 billion dollars for the quarter. Analysts also project Azure revenue growth of roughly 44 to 45 percent on a constant currency basis.
This matters because Azure is the clearest window into whether AI spending is paying off. Microsoft guided to about 45 percent Azure growth for this quarter. The company spent over 50 billion dollars on capital projects during the period. That is more than double the amount spent a year ago. Investors will want to see if this heavy spending is translating into revenue.
For your question about timing, the data shows why the setup is tricky. The stock has a consensus price target near 602 dollars, which implies about 15 percent upside from recent levels. However, buy side expectations for Azure are around 46 percent growth, slightly above the company's guidance. If Azure meets the guided 45 percent, some may view it as solid. If it merely matches the lower end, reactions could be mixed.
The key signal is not just Azure growth but the margin outlook and how much more the company plans to spend. Analysts note that Microsoft's gross margin will face pressure from AI infrastructure. The important detail is whether management signals that this spending cycle is peaking or continuing.
I am holding my positions and watching the market. Which number will you focus on most tonight, the Azure growth rate or the capital spending outlook.
This is not financial advice.
