FED RATE DECISION: WILL THE FED HOLD RATES OR SIGNAL ANOTHER HIKE?
The Federal Reserve’s October 27–28 policy meeting is one of the most important macroeconomic events for global financial markets this week. Investors are watching closely to determine whether the Fed will maintain its current interest-rate range or prepare the market for another increase before the end of 2026.
Will the Fed raise rates again in October, or will policymakers choose to wait?
1. What Is the Market Expecting?
As of October 27, most economists expect the Federal Reserve to keep its benchmark interest rate unchanged at 3.75%–4.00%. The Fed raised rates by 0.25 percentage points in September, its first increase in three years.
However, inflation remains a serious concern. U.S. consumer prices increased 3.7% year over year in September, remaining well above the Fed’s 2% inflation target. Rising energy costs and persistent price pressures could force policymakers to maintain a restrictive monetary policy for longer.
A pause in October would not necessarily mean the rate-hiking cycle is over. Markets are also watching for another potential increase in December.
2. What Will Kevin Warsh Say?
The press conference by Fed Chair Kevin Warsh may be just as important as the rate decision itself. Investors will focus on three key signals:
Inflation outlook: Does Warsh believe inflation is becoming more persistent, or does he expect price pressures to ease over time?
Future rate decisions: Will he suggest that another increase is likely in December, or emphasize that policymakers need more economic data before making their next move?
Economic growth and employment: How will the Fed balance its commitment to price stability against the risk of slowing economic activity and weakening employment?
Warsh has favored a more restrained approach to forward guidance, so investors may need to interpret his answers carefully rather than expect a clear promise about the next rate decision.
3. What Could Happen to Bitcoin and Crypto?
Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other risk-sensitive assets could experience increased volatility around the announcement.
If the Fed holds rates and Warsh delivers a relatively cautious but non-aggressive message, markets could interpret the decision positively. However, a hold accompanied by warnings about persistent inflation may not generate a sustained rally.
Conversely, stronger signals of additional rate hikes could strengthen the U.S. dollar, push Treasury yields higher, and place pressure on cryptocurrencies and equities.
The actual market reaction will depend on how the decision compares with expectations, not simply whether rates change.
4. My Market View
My view is cautious ahead of the announcement. A rate hold appears to be the more likely scenario, but the press conference could determine the market’s next direction.
For Bitcoin, I would watch trading volume, support and resistance levels, and whether price action confirms a breakout or breakdown after the announcement. I would avoid chasing sudden moves and wait for confirmation before considering a position.
Final Thoughts
The October Fed decision is about more than interest rates. It is about inflation, economic resilience, liquidity expectations, and the future direction of risk assets. A pause could offer temporary relief, but persistent inflation may keep monetary policy restrictive.
The key question is not only what the Fed does on Wednesday, but what its decision and communication imply for December and beyond.
What is your expectation: will the Fed hold rates steady in October, or will persistent inflation force another rate hike?
Not financial advice. Always do your own research.
