#Gate广场万圣节 #WCTCS9 Bitcoin’s resilience is being put to a tougher test. CoinShares described BTC as relatively strong amid renewed market volatility, supported by spot buying, improving equity sentiment, and short covering. But that assessment was published on October 23, before the weekend sell-off changed the picture.

With Bitcoin trading around $79,930, the question is no longer whether BTC showed resilience earlier in the week. It is whether that strength can survive a renewed test of the $80,000 level.

I assessed the claim across five pillars: spot demand, short covering, correlation with equities, interest-rate expectations, and broader macroeconomic support. My score is 7 out of 15. That suggests resilience remains possible, but the evidence is far from conclusive.

Pillar One: Spot Demand — 2/3

Spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted more than $1 billion during the first three trading sessions of the week. Despite significant withdrawals later, the week reportedly finished with approximately $301 million in net inflows.

That is an important distinction. Investors did not withdraw more money than they contributed over the full week, but the late-week reversal shows that demand was uneven.

Reports of renewed whale accumulation offer another potentially constructive signal. However, accumulation does not guarantee immediate price appreciation when selling pressure remains elevated.

My assessment: demand has not disappeared, but it needs to become more consistent to support a sustainable recovery.

Pillar Two: Short Covering and Market Positioning — 1/3

Short covering helped support Bitcoin’s earlier rebound, but the weekend demonstrated how quickly positioning can reverse.

BTC fell to approximately $79,146 on Saturday, while reports recorded roughly $401.91 million in long liquidations over a four-hour period. Total liquidations across 24 hours reportedly exceeded $800 million.

This is important because forced liquidations can accelerate a decline even when the underlying market narrative has not fundamentally changed. The long-heavy liquidation imbalance suggests that leveraged bullish positioning had become vulnerable.

My assessment: the earlier rebound showed that buying interest existed, but the weekend exposed how fragile the recovery remained.

Pillar Three: Independence From Equities — 1/3

Bitcoin’s ability to outperform traditional markets is another part of the resilience argument.

However, BTC weakened from approximately $82,500 on October 19 to $79,930, a decline of roughly 3.1%. The Nasdaq reportedly lost around 0.7% over the five sessions ending Friday.

That comparison suggests Bitcoin struggled to maintain its earlier relative strength. Crypto trades continuously, including when traditional markets are closed, so weekend volatility can also create a misleading comparison between the two markets.

My assessment: Bitcoin demonstrated some resilience earlier in the week, but its subsequent decline weakened the case for meaningful independence from risk assets.

Pillar Four: Federal Reserve Expectations — 2/3

The October 28 Federal Reserve decision is the next major macroeconomic event.

Market expectations cited in the October 20 analysis suggested a relatively low probability of an October rate hike, while the possibility of a December hike remained considerably higher. These probabilities can change quickly, so the exact figures should be treated as a snapshot rather than a fixed forecast.

For Bitcoin, the distinction between an expected decision and an unexpected policy signal matters. If the Fed holds rates steady but emphasizes persistent inflation, markets could interpret the decision as hawkish. A more balanced tone could help stabilize risk appetite.

My assessment: the immediate rate outlook may be less threatening than an unexpected hike, but uncertainty around future policy remains a meaningful risk.

Pillar Five: Broader Macro Support — 1/3

Bitcoin’s recovery also depends on liquidity, inflation expectations, and investor willingness to hold risk assets.

Cooling housing data and renewed spot demand can help sentiment, but inflationary pressure may restrict the Fed’s ability to ease policy. Elevated energy prices could further complicate that outlook.

This means a single positive headline may not be enough to sustain a rally. The broader environment must support renewed demand.

My assessment: macroeconomic conditions remain mixed, leaving Bitcoin vulnerable to changes in rate expectations and market liquidity.

Total Score: 7/15

This is my subjective framework, not a standardized market indicator. Bitcoin showed resilience during part of the week, but ETF-flow reversals, leveraged liquidations, and weaker relative performance have reduced confidence in that thesis.

The next question is whether price can recover the levels it has lost.

Bitcoin Technical Map at $79,930

Support comes first. The $80,000 psychological level is especially important because Glassnode placed the average holder’s cost basis near $80,200. At $79,930, BTC is approximately 0.34% below that reference point.

The market is therefore trading close to a level that matters for holder profitability and sentiment. A sustained move below support could increase selling pressure, although cost basis alone does not determine market direction.

The next technical references are approximately $79,000, followed by the 100-day exponential moving average near $76,824 and the 200-day exponential moving average near $75,751, based on the supplied technical snapshot. A deeper decline could bring the $70,000 area into focus.

On the upside, $80,443 is the first recovery level to watch, corresponding to the previously cited 50-day EMA. Beyond that, $82,500 is an important resistance zone, followed by $84,000.

From $79,930, reclaiming $82,500 would require a rise of approximately 3.2%. Reaching $84,000 would require a move of about 5.1%.

The structure around $79,000 deserves particular attention. Bitcoin has repeatedly approached this region, including lows around $79,842 on October 15 and $79,146 on October 24. Repeated tests can weaken support, although the outcome depends on how buyers respond during each retest.

For that reason, I would treat a decisive daily close below $79,000 as a warning that the current structure has deteriorated. A quick intraday dip followed by a strong recovery would tell a different story.

Three Scenarios for the Coming Week

A resilience scenario develops if the Fed delivers a balanced message, Bitcoin reclaims $80,443, and buyers push price above $82,500. That would create a stronger basis for testing $84,000.

A range-bound scenario remains possible if BTC holds $79,000 but cannot reclaim $82,500. In that case, price could continue moving sideways while traders wait for greater macroeconomic clarity.

A bearish scenario emerges if the Fed sounds more hawkish than expected, ETF outflows accelerate, or Bitcoin closes decisively below $79,000. The $76,824 and $75,751 areas would then become important downside references.

The calendar makes patience especially important. The Fed decision is scheduled for October 28, with major technology earnings from Microsoft and Alphabet around the same time and Amazon reporting the following day. The November 3 US midterm elections add another potential source of uncertainty.

My Approach

I would keep leverage limited while the market is trading near a heavily watched support zone. I would also avoid treating an intraday bounce as proof of a trend reversal.

For me, the key signals are a sustained recovery above $80,443, a convincing break above $82,500, and evidence that spot demand is improving. Conversely, a decisive daily close below $79,000 would weaken the resilience argument considerably.

Bitcoin does not need every macroeconomic signal to turn positive before it can recover. But it does need enough genuine demand to absorb selling pressure and establish a more durable price structure.

The five-pillar scorecard suggests that resilience has not disappeared; it has simply become harder to defend. The next move will reveal whether buyers can turn that remaining support into actual strength. @Gate_Square
