#BTCDropsBelow81000 #ShareWeekly $BTC @Gate_Square
BTC slipped under $81,000, with the low printing around $80,800 and the day’s drop running roughly 3% to 4% depending on the window. My view: this is a retest of the bottom of a one-month range, not a breakdown yet, but it only stays that way if tech stabilizes. Here’s how I’m reading it.
1. This was a tech move, not a crypto move
The trigger was the AI-spending scare. The tech-heavy index fell 2.6%, Meta dropped about 7% and chipmakers got hit hard. Analysts described BTC as trading like a high-beta tech position, and I agree. Treasury yields actually eased, so this isn’t a rate shock. It’s a funding and growth scare. Oil (Brent in the $110s) and Middle East headlines are adding pressure.
2. The flush was mostly longs
Roughly $430M to $450M was liquidated over 24 hours, with about $400M from longs. That’s meaningful, but this month already had a day above $1B. My read: leverage got trimmed, but nothing says the cleanup is finished.
3. Why I call it range-low, not breakdown
BTC has held roughly $80,000 to $87,000 for the past month. This is at least the third time in October it has poked under 81,000 (Oct 8, Oct 13 and now). Repeated tests bounce less each time, though, so a weaker bounce from here would be my warning sign.
4. My distance map (from ~81,600 on my daily chart)
Up: shortest MA at 81,792 (+0.2%), then my resistance at 85,856 (+5.2%)
Down: my support at 79,920 (-2.1%), then 77,020 (-5.6%), 75,500 (-7.5%), the middle MA near 75,244 (-7.8%), the longest MA near 72,865 (-10.7%)
From that price, upside to 85,856 is about 2.5x the downside to 79,920. But below 79,920 the next marked level is about 2,900 points lower, so a daily close matters more than a wick.
5. Momentum is leaning down, not broken
RSI is 47, neutral. MACD sits just under zero and below its signal line, with a big negative histogram (-219). Momentum is rolling over, not capitulating.
6. What decides the next leg
Next week is dense. The Fed meets Oct 27 to 28, with one research desk calling a December hike the base case. Microsoft and Alphabet report Oct 28, Amazon on Oct 29, and core PCE lands Oct 29. A calmer tech tape is the rebound trigger. Another AI-funding scare is the downside trigger.
My take: I’m treating 79,920 as the line. A daily close back above ~81,800 keeps the 85,856 area in play. A daily close below 79,920 shifts my focus to 77,020, then 75,500. Until one of those happens, I’m not chasing in either direction.
Not financial advice.
Where’s your line in the sand: 80,000 or 77,000? And do you think BTC follows tech down from here, or finally decouples?
