#USAIAndCryptoStocksRise $AMD $NVDA $MSTR $COIN
AI and crypto stocks bounced together, so why do their charts still sit below their short-term averages? Here’s how I’d read a rally that looks better in headlines than on the screen.
1. What drove the day
The Nasdaq rose 1.05% to 26,702.86, and the semiconductor index rose 1.97%. The sparks were SpaceX’s results and a big guidance raise from a server maker, which reassured investors about AI demand. MSTR rose 7.54%, COIN 3.65%, NVDA 2.54% and AMD about 3.4%.
2. The breadth check
Reportedly, NYSE advancers beat decliners only 1.37 to 1, and the Nasdaq had 216 new lows against 53 new highs. Small caps rose just 0.27% (single-source). A rally led by a few AI names isn’t the same as risk appetite recovering broadly.
3. The poll vs. the tape
On the card’s poll, 86% picked AI chips as the leader and 0% picked crypto stocks. Yet the best performer of the day was a crypto stock. When the crowd is that one-sided, I’d lean on price, not consensus.
4. Crypto stocks as levered BTC (my math)
Since 8 pm ET, BTC on my chart fell about 1.5% (84,097.7 to 82,818.9), while MSTR fell about 4.2% and COIN about 1.6%. So MSTR moved roughly 2.7x BTC’s move, and COIN roughly 1x. MSTR’s +7.54% day and its overnight giveback both come from that leverage.
5. Chart check (levels from my screenshots)
NVDA at 219.18: support at 212.69 (-3.0%), 35/14/21-day at 224.78/226.04/226.84 (+2.6% to +3.5%), resistance at 241.29 (+10.1%). RSI is 44.4.
AMD at 532.71: support at 500.81 (-6.0%), 14/35/21-day at 565.98/571.10/583.40 (+6.2% to +9.5%), resistance at 663.92 (+24.6%). RSI is 42.2.
MSTR at 147.65: it sits inside its average cluster (146.28 to 150.52), support at 132.57 (-10.2%), resistance at 167.81 (+13.7%). RSI is 51.4.
COIN at 174.85: support at 166.79 (-4.6%), 14-day at 177.79 (+1.7%), 21/35-day at 181.96/182.66 (+4.1% to +4.5%), resistance at 195.51 (+11.8%). RSI is 46.9.
Only MSTR has an RSI above 50, and NVDA, AMD and COIN are all below their averages. The rally repaired part of the damage but hasn’t flipped the trend. Overnight prices are thin, so I’d treat these levels as a map, not a signal.
6. What would confirm it
Daily closes above the averages (NVDA 226.84, AMD 583.40, COIN 182.66), the Fed decision on October 28 (6 days away), and Treasury yields calming after a reported 5.469% 20-year auction.
My take: this is an AI relief rally with narrow leadership, and crypto stocks are the highest-beta way to play the same mood. I’d rather see closes above the averages than trust an overnight bounce. I’d rank them by how close they are to those averages: MSTR first, NVDA second.
Not financial advice.
Do you trust a narrow AI-led bounce, or do you need breadth to confirm? And which one do you think leads next: chips or crypto stocks?
