The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is preparing for a significant event to examine the impact of artificial intelligence on financial markets. Organized by the agency’s Innovation Task Force, the inaugural event of the "Frontier Forum" series—taking place on October 28—will focus on artificial intelligence and "agentic finance."

In a statement regarding the event, CFTC Chair Michael S. Selig highlighted the potential for artificial intelligence to transform financial markets. "Super-intelligence is poised to transform our financial markets," Selig stated. "Through this inaugural forum, we will bring together leaders at the intersection of technology and finance to explore the opportunities and risks presented by artificial intelligence, helping to shape the next frontier of American financial innovation." The event will address how artificial intelligence might alter the functioning of derivatives markets, as well as its potential impact on price discovery and risk management processes. Additionally, the forum will explore how AI agents—deployed by investors—can operate within the framework of CFTC regulations.

Another key focus of the forum will be to promote the responsible adoption of artificial intelligence and to safeguard market participants against new and emerging risks. By convening leaders from the technology and finance sectors, the event will provide an opportunity for a comprehensive assessment of both current applications of artificial intelligence in financial markets and its future potential. This initiative by the CFTC demonstrates that regulatory bodies are not remaining indifferent to developments in artificial intelligence—a field whose role within the financial system is steadily growing—but are instead adopting a proactive approach. The event is expected to contribute to the shaping of a regulatory framework aimed at ensuring the safe and effective use of artificial intelligence technologies in financial markets.
