Zcash (ZEC) Jumped 8.5% in 24 Hours: Key Levels, Price Outlook and Trading Plan
Zcash is one of the strongest privacy coins in the current session, and the move has pulled trader attention back after weeks of choppy, sideways action. Market reports put the 24-hour gain at about 8.5%, with one outlet citing a price near 1,216 USDT when the rebound was first reported. On Gate spot, the latest hourly snapshot showed ZEC around 1,253 USDT, with a 24-hour high of 1,296.3 and a 24-hour low of 1,122.9. Because the percentage depends on the reference price and time window, check the live quote on Gate before placing any order.
Why did it move? Three forces lined up. First, the broader crypto market rebounded. Bitcoin rose around 1.6% and spot ETF money returned to the sector. When Bitcoin leads, high-beta altcoins usually follow, and ZEC has been moving with that tide. Second, privacy coins attracted a sector bid. Santiment research highlighted strength across privacy tokens, with Monero also rising over the past week. Traders are reading this as a narrative rotation inside the altcoin market rather than a full market recovery, and that distinction matters for how durable the move will be. Third, protocol news is in play. The upcoming Zcash NU7 upgrade proposes sending 60 percent of transaction fees into a reserve for future block rewards, with the remaining 40 percent going to miners. It also cuts the target block time from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, which the proposal says could roughly triple transaction speed. Developers were expected to decide on mainnet launch around October 20, but the sources reviewed did not confirm an activation block height. Until activation is confirmed, NU7 is a narrative catalyst, not a settled fundamental change.
Two more items add to the noise. Cameron Winklevoss publicly called Zcash "the AI hedge in crypto" and said it could eventually trade above 5,000 dollars. That is a long-term view, not a near-term forecast, and it should be treated as sentiment. Separately, derivatives reports flagged a 5.6 million dollar short position on ZECUSD opened from a 20 million dollar account, and a whale wallet holding roughly 10,241 ZEC. A large short can fuel a squeeze if price keeps climbing, because shorts must buy back to close. But it can also mean a well-capitalized trader is positioning for a reversal. Neither data point proves direction on its own, and they should be used as context rather than signals.
Now the technical picture on the daily timeframe. Over the last month ZEC has mostly traded between roughly 1,100 and 1,350. Late September was a strong distribution phase, with the daily high near 1,696 on September 26, followed by a sequence of lower highs into early October, with a peak near 1,385 on October 6. Since then price has built a base between about 1,100 and 1,300. The current daily candle opened near 1,257 and has printed a high of 1,296.3, which pushes against the top of this recent range. That is the first meaningful test of the 1,300 zone since mid-October, so the reaction at this level will tell us a lot.
On the hourly chart, the 7-period moving average sits near 1,265, just above the current price, while the 30-period average is near 1,193 and the 120-period average is near 1,160. That stacking is constructive: short-term averages are above longer-term ones, and price is holding above the middle Bollinger band near 1,218. The hourly RSI is around 65, which signals firm momentum without being overbought. MACD is positive, though the histogram is modest, which suggests momentum is improving rather than accelerating explosively. The hourly ADX near 51 points to a strong trend, and the positive directional indicator sits well above the negative one, which favors buyers for now. The upper Bollinger band near 1,314 is the next visible magnetic zone above price.
For resistance, the first level to watch is 1,296 to 1,300. This includes today's high and a round-number psychological level. A clean hourly close above it would open the path to the next supply zone. The second resistance band runs from 1,314 to 1,350. It combines the hourly upper Bollinger region with the October 12 high near 1,349, and sellers have appeared in this area before, so expect profit taking if price reaches it quickly. The third resistance zone sits at 1,380 to 1,385, which is the early-October high area. A sustained break above it would signal a return toward the late-September trend structure and would likely draw in momentum buyers.
For support, the first zone is 1,250 to 1,257. This covers the October 20 daily close and the area where price is trading right now. Holding it keeps the short-term structure intact. The second support band is 1,215 to 1,222. It includes the hourly middle Bollinger band near 1,218, the daily 30-period average near 1,209, and the October 10 close near 1,222. This is the first meaningful pullback zone, and buyers who missed the move often look here. The third support zone is 1,180 to 1,190, which matches the October 8 close and the lower edge of the earlier consolidation. A daily close below this area would weaken the bullish structure. The deeper support band runs from 1,100 to 1,150. It contains closes and lows from October 14, 16 and 17, and it overlaps with the 120-period average near 1,160. A move back into this area would suggest the rebound has failed.
Now the trading scenarios. These are not financial advice, and they are not guarantees. In a bullish case, ZEC holds above 1,250 on a closing basis and then breaks 1,300 with rising volume. The next target zone would be 1,315 to 1,350. A continuation through 1,350 would reopen the path toward 1,380. Momentum traders often wait for a retest of the breakout level as a lower-risk entry, with a stop placed below 1,240 so that a failed breakout is cut quickly. If strength continues for several sessions, a stretch zone of 1,380 to 1,400 becomes realistic, but that requires sustained volume and continued Bitcoin strength. Without those, breakouts in privacy coins often fade quickly.
In a bearish case, price fails at 1,296 to 1,300 and then loses 1,250. The first pullback target is the 1,215 to 1,222 zone. A close below 1,190 would shift the short-term picture toward the 1,150 area, and a loss of that band would bring the deeper 1,100 zone into view. Traders managing downside risk usually look for rejection candles near resistance rather than chasing breakdowns, because privacy coins can snap back sharply after a flush.
In a range case, which has described much of the past month, ZEC oscillates between about 1,220 and 1,300. The setup then favors buying near support with tight invalidation and reducing exposure near resistance. Range traders should accept smaller gains and avoid forcing trades in the middle of the band, where signals are weakest.
On how far it can go, a realistic near-term map is 1,300 to 1,350 if the bullish case plays out, with 1,380 to 1,400 as a stretch target if momentum persists and BTC cooperates. The 5,000 dollar figure mentioned by Winklevoss belongs to a long-term thesis, not a trading plan, and it would require a far larger shift in adoption, liquidity and market structure than today's setup implies. On the downside, a loss of 1,190 opens the door to 1,150 and then the 1,100 region, which is where the last major rebound base formed.
Risk management matters more than the forecast. Daily ranges have been wide, and the 24-hour swing alone is around 13 percent from low to high. That means stops need to sit beyond normal noise, which in turn means position size must shrink. Keep risk per trade small, define your invalidation level before entering, and avoid using high leverage on an asset that can gap on news. The NU7 decision, a possible short squeeze and any sudden shift in Bitcoin direction can each create fast moves in either direction, so plan for both outcomes rather than assuming one.
Before entering any position, check several items. Confirm the live price on Gate, because the figures above come from snapshots and daily candles that update through the session. Watch whether the hourly close holds above 1,250 and whether a breakout above 1,300 comes with genuine volume. Monitor Bitcoin, since a Bitcoin reversal would likely drag ZEC back toward support quickly. Track official NU7 announcements for activation timing and the final block height. And watch whether the short positions reported on derivatives platforms are being added to or closed, because that shift can change the squeeze risk.
Bottom line: ZEC has momentum, a constructive hourly structure and a clear set of levels. The next decision point is the 1,296 to 1,300 zone. A confirmed breakout above it favors the bulls and opens the 1,315 to 1,350 target band. A rejection there, followed by a loss of 1,250, favors a pullback toward 1,215 to 1,222. Trade the levels you can define, size positions conservatively, and verify everything on Gate before you act.
