Asian markets surged at the open today. Samsung and SK Hynix were up 5% and 7%, respectively, and memory chips rebounded across the board. On the AI server front, Super Micro Computer jumped 16% after hours, and Nvidia moved higher too—showing that the money hasn’t left; it’s just changing seats.

On the crypto side, BTC touched $83,000 before getting pushed back down and is now hovering around $82,000. ETH followed, reaching $2,450. SOL, XRP, and BNB are all up too, though not by much—they’re basically “catching their breath behind the big brother.”

A few key points:

First, oil prices plunged overnight, with Brent crude briefly falling below $110. That offers some temporary relief from inflationary pressure, which is good for risk assets.

Second, U.S. earnings season is beating expectations. SpaceX revenue surged 161%, AI revenue grew ninefold, and Musk even said he wants to merge it with Tesla—markets always buy into stories like this.

Third, and most importantly, the Fed’s October 28 rate decision is coming up. Prediction markets have the odds of the Fed “holding steady” at 87%, and there will probably be another hike in December. In other words, liquidity isn’t going to get tighter in the short term, but it won’t loosen either. The market is trading within that narrow window.

Altcoins are clearly diverging. The AI sector is holding up relatively well, while DePIN is still drifting lower. ARB is digesting selling pressure after its recent Layer 2 token unlock, while SUI is showing some relative strength, with ETFs quietly accumulating. But altcoins as a whole still haven’t regained their bounce. ETF funds are still flowing out, and BTC and ETH saw nearly $600 million leave combined last week. Institutions haven’t really come back yet.

I don’t think this is the time to go all in, but it’s not the time to sit entirely on the sidelines either. If BTC holds above $80,000, the bulls are still in the game. If it can’t break through $83,000, don’t chase it yet—wait for a pullback toward $79,000–$80,000 and see if it finds support. You can take small positions in altcoins with AI narratives and relatively strong performance, but don’t use leverage—derivatives liquidations are brutal right now, with more than $300 million getting wiped out in a single day. Longs have lives too.

In a nutshell: the macro backdrop is catching its breath, and capital is rotating. Don’t chase highs; wait for a pullback. AI and memory chips are the two key themes to watch, and wait for BTC to hold above $83,000 before talking about a full-scale altcoin rally. $SOL
