#MicronHostsTechnicalWebinar $MU #ShareWeekly
A technical webinar isn’t an earnings call, and that’s the key to how I’d read this headline. It can change the story, but it won’t give the numbers investors are actually worried about.
1. What was announced
Micron will host a technology webinar on Wednesday, Oct 21 at 8:00 am Mountain Time, led by president and CTO Scott DeBoer. The stated agenda is a multigenerational roadmap across DRAM, HBM and NAND, plus customer co-design and long-term research, followed by Q&A. That’s 14:00 UTC, which is 10:00 am ET, so it lands about 30 minutes after the US open (my math) and the reaction will be live.
2. What the agenda doesn’t include
The card mentions capacity planning, but the company’s own description doesn’t promise capacity, capex or pricing figures. Some previews say investors will listen for hints on how capacity is split between HBM, server DRAM and NAND, but that’s investor hope, not the agenda. I’d expect technology and customer-positioning detail, not guidance.
3. Why the roadmap still matters
The recent selloff came from doubts: a Chinese DRAM maker’s claimed breakthrough, AI-funding stress and talk of oversupply down the road. A roadmap is a way to argue a moat. Micron says it started volume production of its 36GB 12-high HBM4 this year and has sampled a 48GB 16-high version with multiple customers. If the webinar adds customer commitments or next-generation timing, that supports the “technology lead” story. If it stays generic, it’s a non-event.
4. The read-through
HBM, DRAM and NAND on the agenda touches SK hynix and Samsung (HBM and DRAM) and SanDisk (NAND). Versus Monday’s screenshots, MU is +3.0%, SanDisk +5.6% and the SK hynix ADR +4.6% (rough, since timestamps differ; my math). The sector is already bouncing into the event, so the bar is higher than it was a day ago.
5. Chart check (levels from my screenshots)
MU at 905.3: support at 888.4 (-1.9%), 35-day at 1,003.6 (+10.9%), 14-day at 1,005.0 (+11.0%), 21-day at 1,026.5 (+13.4%), resistance at 1,163.0 (+28.5%). RSI is 38.5, and the MACD histogram is -22.7.
SanDisk at 1,371.2: support at 1,302.7 (-5.0%), 14-day at 1,566.6 (+14.2%), RSI 36.
SK hynix at 142.7: support at 136.7 (-4.2%), 14-day at 168.5 (+18.1%), RSI 33.
On paper, MU’s 11% to the average cluster against 1.9% to support is about 5.9:1 (my math). But support across this group has failed repeatedly in the last week, so I wouldn’t lean on that ratio.
6. Scenarios
Real customer detail would be supportive for the sector. A generic roadmap carries “sell the news” risk after a 3–6% bounce. Wednesday is also crowded, with Tesla reporting after the close and SpaceX reporting tonight, so AI-risk sentiment may move the whole group regardless.
My take: I treat it as a narrative catalyst, not a numbers catalyst. I’m watching whether MU holds 888 and whether the sector keeps its bounce through the Q&A. I’m not chasing the announcement itself.
Not financial advice.
Do you think a roadmap webinar can calm the memory selloff, or does the market need hard numbers? And which matters more to you: Micron’s technology lead or the capacity question?
