#每周来晒 Roadster hype vs reality: a four-exhibit evidence file on whether the narrative is lasting or fading
Tesla unveiled its redesigned Roadster on October 15, 2026, with production planned for 2028. That single fact frames everything below: markets are trading a future product, not current deliveries. I put the evidence in four exhibits, so the verdict comes from data and not from the headline.
Exhibit A: the stock tried, then gave it back
TSLA closed at $362.44 on Thursday. Before Friday's open it traded at $376.56, up 3.9%, and one tracker showed a premarket high of $378.88, up 4.63%. Then the move reversed. TSLA fell 2.1% on Friday to $354.72, on about 61.6 million shares, roughly 21% above its daily average of 50.8 million.
By my math, a 4.6% premarket gain turned into a 2.1% loss, a swing of roughly 6.4% from the peak. The close also sits below the 50-day average of $359.46 and well under the 200-day average of $377.06. Heavy volume on a down day suggests sellers, not enthusiasts, controlled the session. Monday premarket quotes are still near $354.72, and shares are down 19.4% year to date. The initial pop did not hold.
Exhibit B: the token that did the real round trip
FTR is the more extreme case. At the peak, the token traded at $0.006082 with a market cap of about $5.8 million, liquidity of only $297,000 and volume about 3.8 times the market cap. That means big sell orders could move price quickly, and profit-taking addresses started batch-dumping into liquidity pools after the peak.
From the reported intraday high of $0.006980 on October 15 to the October 16 close of $0.003366, the drop is about 52%. Later tracker readings are lower still, one showing a price of $0.001440, a market cap of $1.38 million and liquidity of only about $8,500. Against the high, that reading would be down about 79%. Treat that as directional, since tracker timestamps do not line up.
A warning on verification: several assets and pools carry the FTR name, and prices differ widely by venue and contract. One pool listed against another token shows a price near $0.0004665. Always confirm the exact token and venue before quoting a price. The same rule applies to SPCX: in this post it means SpaceX shares on Nasdaq, and other assets use the same ticker, including very small tokens with low reported liquidity, so they must not be confused.
Exhibit C: the fundamentals have not changed
The product is far away. Reports say the Roadster remains in design development with no confirmed factory. That makes confirmation of a manufacturing site a key watch item. Meanwhile, Tesla reports Q3 results after the close on October 21, with analysts expecting EPS of $0.45 against $0.50 a year earlier and revenue of $27.94 billion. Options imply a post-earnings move of about 7.48%, and the stock has fallen after each of the last three reports, including a 14.52% drop in July.
Exhibit D: the real narrative is the SpaceX link
Prediction-market odds of a Tesla-SpaceX merger in early 2027 have risen above 50%, though no deal has been announced. That is a bigger story than the car. The next test comes Tuesday, when SpaceX reports Q3 results after the close. SPCX closed Friday at $146.03.
The verdict
On the evidence, the Roadster created a trading event, not a lasting narrative. Attention was huge, since turnover on FTR was several times its market cap, but liquidity was thin, the reversal was fast, and TSLA gave up its entire pop. The market is treating the Roadster as a halo, not as a revenue driver.
What would change my mind:
1. A confirmed manufacturing site for the Roadster.
2. A firmer production timeline on the October 21 call.
3. Price discovery that holds above $359 and then $377 on TSLA, the 50-day and 200-day averages.
4. A real deal path between Tesla and SpaceX.
What confirms fading:
1. TSLA closing below $354.
2. FTR liquidity staying thin while price keeps sliding.
3. An earnings reaction driven by margins and cash flow, with the Roadster barely mentioned.
How I would handle it
For TSLA, I would trade the earnings, not the car, with smaller size because of the 7.5% implied move. For FTR, I would treat it as a high-risk, very short-term instrument, with tiny size and an exit set before entry. And I would verify every ticker and contract before quoting any price.
