#WCTCS9 #GateBTCAndETHFuturesVolumeRanksTop3 Gate's BTC and ETH futures both rank top three worldwide: the numbers behind the headline, updated for Monday
Liquidity tends to get noticed when markets are quiet, and it matters most when they are not. Here is the Odaily and CoinGlass data on Gate's futures standing, plus what the tape has done since.
On October 16, CoinGlass data showed BTC at about $81,804.80, up 1.21% over 24 hours, and ETH at about $2,426.43, up 2.91%. In derivatives, BTC futures volume was about $68.649 billion, down 7.69%, and ETH futures volume was about $45.335 billion, down 19.73%. Within that, Gate recorded roughly $7.47 billion in BTC futures and $6.58 billion in ETH futures, placing it in the global top three for both.
My arithmetic on the shares
A single exchange taking about 10.9% of BTC futures volume and about 14.5% of ETH futures volume is a meaningful slice of a market with many large venues. The ETH share is the stronger of the two.
Why the timing matters
Total market volume fell sharply in that snapshot, especially in ETH, where activity dropped nearly a fifth. A top-three position in a shrinking market says something about depth. When traders pull back, the venues that keep their volume are usually the ones with the liquidity to hold it.
What the market did next
Since that snapshot, BTC moved from $81,805 to about $82,556, a gain of roughly 0.9%, while ETH moved from $2,426 to about $2,423, essentially flat. Bitcoin sits near $82,556 and Ethereum near $2,423, with BTC dominance at 58.6% and ETH at 10.5%. BTC has been the stronger of the two.
The weekend was not smooth. BTC briefly tested the $80,750 to $81,000 support zone over the weekend before rebounding and reclaiming $81,300 to $81,500 on increased volume. Early Monday brought flashes of weakness, with data alerts noting ETH fell below $2,350 and BTC fell below $81,000, before ETH broke back through $2,400, trading at $2,401.08. That is the kind of intraday swing where deep order books earn their keep.
The macro setting
Markets are trying to stabilize after a rough week. US stocks were poised for a bounce after their biggest weekly drop since the tariff announcements of last April, with Nasdaq 100 futures up 1.3% and S&P 500 futures up 0.8% in Asian hours. Stronger Chinese economic data and lower oil prices lifted risk appetite on Monday. Friday's close was weak, though: the Nasdaq fell 2.15% to 26,140.03 and the S&P 500 fell 1.09% to 7,659.44.
Sentiment is cautious but improving. The Fear and Greed Index reads 59, down from 63. The global crypto market cap is about $2.82 trillion.
Technical map
BTC: price is testing the $82,500 to $83,000 resistance zone. Support sits at $80,750 to $81,000, then the 50-day EMA near $80,443. A daily close above $82,538 would be the first sign of strength, with $84,049 to $84,250 next.
ETH: it has reclaimed $2,400. Support sits at $2,356 and $2,309, and resistance at $2,493, then $2,550 and $2,600. A close above the 50-day EMA near $2,493 would confirm the recovery.
What high futures volume does and does not tell you
High volume signals active trading and deep liquidity, which usually means tighter spreads and easier execution. It does not signal direction, and it does not reduce the risk of leverage. A busy venue can still produce fast liquidations when price moves against crowded positions.
How I am using it
Liquidity is a reason to trade where execution is good, not a reason to take bigger risk. My rules stay simple: use stops, keep leverage low, size positions for a normal daily swing of 3% to 4%, and avoid adding right before events. This week has plenty, including SpaceX and Tesla earnings, Solana's Alpenglow upgrade, and the Fed meeting on October 27-28.
One reminder on data: the Gate volume figures come from the October 16 snapshot, so check live CoinGlass data for the current ranking before relying on them.
