#SpaceXQ3Earnings SpaceX Q3 earnings: the pre-flight checklist before Tuesday's report

SpaceX reports its third-quarter results on Tuesday, October 20, after the market closes, and the audio webcast starts at 4:30 p.m. ET. This is a big test for the stock, for AI sentiment, and for risk appetite across markets. I put together a countdown-style checklist of what matters, using the latest numbers.

1: where the stock stands at T-minus one day

SPCX closed Friday at $146.03, down 1.74%. It has been under pressure all week: shares fell about 9% this week on AI debt worries and a $40 billion funding plan, and another outlet counts an 11% decline over five trading days amid a sell-off across the AI sector. That context matters, because the stock enters the report weaker than it was.

2: what Wall Street expects

Consensus is earnings of $0.14 per share on revenue of $12.89 billion, compared with a loss of $0.09 per share in the previous quarter. If that holds, it would mark the first real profit as a public company. Estimates range higher: analysts expect EPS between $0.14 and $0.23.

3: the baseline from last quarter

Second-quarter revenue jumped 92% year over year to $7.8 billion, and adjusted EBITDA nearly tripled to $3.5 billion. Against that, the $12.89 billion consensus is about 65% above Q2 by my math. Outlets frame the growth differently, some as year over year and some sequentially, so I would focus on the dollar figures.

4: the bullish estimates

Several firms expect a beat. UBS sees revenue of $13.8 billion and adjusted EBITDA of $7.5 billion, about 7% and 9% ahead of the Street. Pivotal expects revenue of $13.2 billion and EPS of $0.21. By my math, UBS's EBITDA figure implies a margin of about 54%, against roughly 45% in Q2. Evercore ISI raised its price target to $275 from $230 and expects a revenue beat. The average target is $217.50, implying about 49% upside from the latest close.

5: the five debates that decide the reaction

Evercore frames the report as a test of broader questions than quarterly numbers. The five debates are revenue, compute capacity, 2027 pricing, capex and mobile service.

First, compute capacity. Management expects computing capacity to exceed 2 gigawatts by year-end, up from 1.4 gigawatts at the end of June, with $6.7 billion of additional cloud contracts signed early in Q3. Evercore expects roughly 2.3 gigawatts by the end of 2026, above consensus.

Second, the revenue run rate. Evercore forecasts annualized revenue above $100 billion exiting 2026, with an estimate near $104 billion.

Third, spending. UBS estimates Q3 capital expenditure at $19.3 billion. That is the number that links growth to financing.

Fourth, cash. SpaceX ended Q2 with about $100 billion in cash. That gives it room, but investors want the financing path to be clear.

Fifth, mobile. Whether SpaceX launches a competitive mobile service remains unresolved.

6: why the reaction may not hinge on the headline profit

One preview argues the reaction is likely to turn less on the profit figure than on the quality of earnings and the financing path. I agree. After a week of AI debt worries, the market will care more about how spending is funded than about a one-quarter beat.

7: the price map

At $146.03, a bullish result puts the $217.50 average target in view, and Evercore's $275 is about 88% above the last close by my math. On the downside, one outlook points to a drop toward $135 if results fall short, which is about 7.5% below Friday's close.

8: the three-day catalyst stretch

Tuesday is only the start. Tesla reports the next day, October 21, with analysts expecting EPS of $0.44 and revenue of $27.8 billion. The same day, Solana's Alpenglow upgrade is scheduled, so traders face a dense calendar of AI, tech and crypto events. The Fed meeting on October 27-28 follows. Bitcoin is holding near $81,600, and the Nasdaq has just had a week with a loss of nearly 5%, so risk appetite is fragile.

My scenarios

Beat with a clear funding plan: relief rally, with the AI trade getting a boost into Tesla's report.
In-line numbers: a choppy reaction, with the stock driven by guidance on capex and compute.
Miss or financing worries: the $135 area comes into play, and AI-linked assets could feel it.

I would not trade the headline. I would wait to see capex, capacity and 2027 pricing, size small around the release, and avoid leverage into a binary event. The first move after the report is often reversed.
