#美国9月PPI大超预期 #ShareWeekly MACRO MEMO: Two Hot Inflation Prints in Two Days, and a Market That Did Not Follow the Script

September producer prices rose 1.3% on the month against 0.6% expected, and 6.3% on the year against a 5.5% consensus. Core PPI climbed 0.7% against a 0.3% forecast. It came one day after CPI of 3.7% year over year, above the 3.6% forecast, with core CPI up 0.3% against 0.2%. Producer energy prices rose 10.8%, so fuel is the main engine, but the core readings show heat spreading beyond it.

THE FED

Rate-hike odds moved fast. October hike odds reached about 45% after CPI, then slipped to 27% on Thursday from 33% on Wednesday. By Friday, Fed Chair Kevin Warsh gave no sign of further hikes during an IMF discussion, and the CME FedWatch probability of a 25-basis-point October hike fell to 15%. Not every official sounds relaxed, though: New York Fed President John Williams said one more hike this year is appropriate. The next policy meeting is October 27-28.

BONDS: THE PLOT TWIST

Yields fell on a hot PPI day. The 10-year yield dropped about 13 basis points to 5.05%, a three-week low, after touching above 5.32% on Wednesday, and it was back at 5.13% on Friday. One read is growth worry, supported by the rest of the data. Retail sales beat at 0.8%, but the control group rose only 0.1% against 0.3% expected, and the Philly Fed index came in at 20.9 against 28.2. That points to price-driven spending, not strong demand.

EQUITIES: TECH TOOK THE HIT

On Wednesday, the S&P 500 fell 1.11% to 7,718.94 and the Nasdaq fell 1.88%, with chips down 4.3% in the Nasdaq's biggest one-day drop since July 23. Thursday brought relief. The S&P 500 closed at 7,744, the Dow gained 1.08% and the Russell 2000 rose 1.38%. The equal-weight S&P 500 rose 1.4%, its best day since early August, so the bounce was broad, while tech lagged. Asia felt the sharpest pain, with the KOSPI falling 7.57% on Thursday before a 2.05% rebound on Friday.

BITCOIN: BULLS TESTED, NOT BROKEN

BTC slipped just under $80,000 on October 15 as liquidations approached $1 billion, then recovered. It held above $80,000 and traded near $82,000 around Friday's Wall Street open. Resistance sits near $84,000. The weekly picture is still soft, but the dip found buyers quickly.

GOLD: HAVEN VERSUS RATES

Gold dropped below $4,100 on CPI day, as higher rate expectations weighed on a non-yielding asset, then recovered to around $4,157 as yields eased. The $4,100 area is nearby support, and $4,200 is the next hurdle.

SCORECARD

- Inflation: hotter than forecast on both CPI and PPI.
- Fed pricing: October hike odds cooled to about 15% after Warsh.
- Yields: lower on the week's key days, which points to growth concerns.
- Tech: hit hardest on Wednesday, with partial recovery since.
- BTC: holding above $80,000.
- Gold: rebounding above $4,100.

THREE WAYS TO POSITION

Defensive: trim leveraged exposure into the October 27-28 meeting, because a single hot print can still reverse the mood.

Opportunistic: scale into dips in small pieces near support, with stops below $80,000 for BTC and $4,100 for gold.

Patient: stay light until BTC clears $84,000 or yields confirm a direction.

THE TAKEAWAY

Inflation is running above forecasts, yet markets reacted with falling yields, a broad equity bounce and a quick crypto recovery. That mix suggests investors worry as much about growth as about prices. The next CPI report and the Fed meeting are the checkpoints that will decide whether this is a pause or a turn. Until then, the data favors flexibility over conviction. @Gate_Square
