This morning’s market action was nerve-racking🔥. BTC fell straight below 81000, while ETH also tested the 2400 level. Altcoins were dragged down across the board, with SOL, XRP, and others all falling.

According to Coinglass data, there were 157 million in liquidations across the market over the past 4 hours, with the vast majority being long positions getting wiped out. Bulls took a major hit. There’s significant macro pressure: Brent crude surged to 112 dollars, reviving inflation concerns, and the S&P 500 fell more than 1%. Strategy’s stock plunged nearly 10%. Weakness in the BTC-heavy giant has added another layer of concern to the market.

Trump discussed Russia-Ukraine and oil prices, saying oil prices would soon come back down. But near-term geopolitical risks remain, and volatility in commodities will continue to spill over into crypto. The market is showing a classic pattern of risk assets getting sold off in tandem with U.S. stocks, as risk aversion picks up.

High oil prices mean it will be difficult for the Fed to truly ease monetary policy. Without the liquidity tap opening, the crypto market can only be a zero-sum game among existing players, or even grind lower on declining volume.

In a nutshell: Oil prices are the anchor, liquidity is life, and crypto doesn’t have the luxury of telling its own story right now.

The ETH/BTC ratio is down nearly 20% this year, with institutional funds clearly concentrating in Bitcoin. Inflows into Ethereum ETFs have been far weaker than those into BTC ETFs. Solana has shown some momentum in the RWA sector, with ecosystem TVL climbing to around 2.5 billion, but liquidity across the altcoin market remains tight. JPMorgan’s report last week put it bluntly: unless DeFi and on-chain activity recover meaningfully, it will be difficult to change the pattern of ETH and altcoins underperforming Bitcoin.

The 80000-81500 range is the cost basis for many ETF holders. If the market confirms a close below it, stop-loss orders could trigger an avalanche of selling. For ETH, 2250-2300 is a genuine support test zone. If it doesn’t hold, 2200 is next.

Don’t rush to buy the dip right now, and especially don’t use leverage. This is a sentiment-driven sell-off, and although prices look low, the support below may not hold. If you’re heavily positioned, reduce your exposure if there’s a rebound near 2450-2480. Don’t try to ride it out. If you’re lightly positioned, wait for a clear sign that BTC has bottomed near 80000, then consider scaling in. Don’t go all in at once. Altcoins aren’t the main battleground right now. Liquidity is too poor, making it easy to get in and hard to get out. $SOL

The oil price anchoring effect is too strong—unless liquidity loosens, the crypto market can only turn inward and compete
