Warsh’s IMF Remarks: Can Bitcoin Sustain Its Recovery, or Is Another Pullback Coming?

Kevin Warsh’s IMF fireside chat has given financial markets another reason to reassess the Federal Reserve’s next move. With inflation remaining elevated and the Oct 27–28 FOMC meeting approaching, traders are trying to determine whether monetary policy will remain restrictive or move toward another rate increase.

My interpretation is that Warsh’s message was cautious rather than clearly dovish. He emphasized price stability, avoided promising a specific policy decision, and discussed artificial intelligence as a major long-term economic opportunity. For crypto traders, the key question is whether this balanced message can support a sustainable Bitcoin recovery.

1. Inflation Remains the Biggest Risk

The reported September CPI inflation rate of 3.7% year-on-year and PPI inflation of 6.3% suggest that price pressures remain a serious concern. These figures make it difficult to assume that the Fed can quickly shift toward easier monetary policy.

Warsh’s refusal to prejudge upcoming meetings does not eliminate the possibility of another rate hike. If inflation remains stubborn, energy prices rise, or economic demand stays strong, policymakers may need to maintain restrictive conditions for longer.

On the other hand, cooling inflation and a weakening labor market could support a policy hold.

My view is simple: traders should focus on incoming economic data rather than interpreting every central bank comment as a definite policy signal.

2. Bitcoin’s Critical Price Zones

In the October 16 market snapshot, BTC traded around $81,892, gaining approximately 0.49%. Bitcoin had recovered from below $80,000 earlier in the week, but the move still requires confirmation.

My technical levels are:

- $81,500–$81,700: Important near-term support.
- Below $81,500: A daily close beneath this zone could weaken the recovery.
- $82,500: Key resistance that buyers need to overcome convincingly.
- Around $79,800: A potential downside retest area if support fails.
- Mid-$80,000s: A possible upside zone if resistance breaks with strong volume.

These are analytical reference levels, not guaranteed price targets.

I would become more confident in a bullish continuation if BTC closes above $82,500 with increasing trading volume. Repeated rejection at resistance, however, could indicate that buyers are losing momentum.

3. Ethereum Shows Relative Strength

ETH was reported near $2,433.86, up approximately 2.24% in the same snapshot. Its stronger percentage gain suggests that buying interest extended beyond Bitcoin.

Nevertheless, one positive session cannot confirm a lasting trend. I would monitor the $2,400 area, trading volume, and BTC’s ability to maintain support.

If both assets continue recovering, broader crypto sentiment could improve. If Bitcoin breaks down, Ethereum may also face renewed selling pressure.

4. The Dollar, Gold, Oil, and US Stocks

Other markets provide important clues about financial conditions.

Gold traded around $4,204.30 per ounce, while WTI crude oil stood near $95.67 per barrel. The reported dollar index was around 101.80, and EUR/USD was near 1.1230.

The previous-session stock snapshot showed the S&P 500 at 7,744.06, the Nasdaq Composite at 26,713.03, and the Dow Jones at 52,177.69.

A softer dollar and stable Treasury yields could support crypto assets. Conversely, rising yields and renewed dollar strength could pressure BTC and ETH. Higher oil prices also complicate the inflation outlook, potentially keeping monetary policy restrictive.

Warsh’s positive comments about AI investment may support long-term growth expectations, but they do not remove the risks associated with elevated interest rates.

5. Three Scenarios for Gate Traders

Bullish: BTC holds $81,500–$81,700 and breaks above $82,500 with stronger volume. This could open the way toward the mid-$80,000s.

Bearish: BTC closes below $81,500, selling pressure increases, and the dollar strengthens. A retest near $79,800 becomes more plausible.

Neutral: BTC remains between support and resistance without convincing momentum. Waiting for confirmation may be more sensible than chasing short-term price movements.

On Gate, I would watch BTC/USDT and ETH/USDT charts alongside open interest, funding rates, and liquidation data. Increasing open interest can confirm stronger participation, but it can also signal greater liquidation risk.

My Final Verdict

Warsh’s message was inflation-focused without committing the Fed to another immediate rate hike. Bitcoin’s recovery is encouraging, but the market has not yet confirmed a sustained bullish reversal.

My outlook remains cautiously bullish while BTC holds its support zone. A strong breakout above $82,500 would improve the picture, whereas a daily close below $81,500 would increase downside risk.

For me, disciplined risk management matters more than predicting the next headline. I would avoid excessive leverage, define invalidation levels before entering trades, and wait for price confirmation.

The real test is whether Bitcoin can turn temporary optimism into sustained buying before the October FOMC meeting.
