#美股存储板块跌幅扩大 #ShareWeekly Storage stocks are not dead, but they are being repriced hard. After a year of triple-digit gains, even good news is no longer enough. Here is my read in the same three boxes as the topic: valuation, competition and divergence, followed by the signals I am waiting for before rebuilding.

THE SNAPSHOT THIS WEEK

The selloff is fresh. Memory-linked names fell again on Tuesday, extending a slide sparked by worries over AI financing and intensifying competition. By Thursday, SanDisk was down about 4% to roughly $1,347, Western Digital down 5% to about $345, Micron down 1% to about $903, and the Roundhill Memory ETF down over 4% to about $48. Earlier in the week, Seagate and Western Digital fell more than 5% each on October 13, with Micron down around 4.7%. And the damage was focused: while the memory ETF dropped 6% in one session, the S&P 500 ETF slipped just 0.3%. This is a sector problem, not a market crash.

BOX 1: VALUATION. HAS AI ALREADY BEEN PRICED IN?

Largely yes, and that is the uncomfortable part. SanDisk is up roughly 450% to 470% so far this year, which makes holders quick to sell on any negative headline. We saw the same pattern in August: both Western Digital and SanDisk beat revenue estimates, yet their outlooks failed to clear a sky-high bar after year-to-date gains of 469% and 202%. The stocks then dropped 16% and 11% on the day.

My takeaway: when a stock has already priced in perfection, good results stop being a catalyst.

BOX 2: COMPETITION. COULD NEW PLAYERS CHANGE THE GAME?

This is the trigger of the current leg down. ChangXin Memory Technologies President Cao Kanyu said on October 14 that the company is targeting a next-generation server memory module by the end of this year. The fear is that ChangXin could add capacity in server memory, where tight supply has supported pricing for established makers. SK Hynix also felt it, with one headline noting it sank 5% on the CXMT news.

But here is the nuance. ChangXin's product is server memory, and the selloff has hit flash storage makers anyway. SanDisk's exposure to this announcement is indirect. Rosenblatt analyst Kevin Cassidy called the selloff overblown and reiterated a Buy on Micron. Fear is running ahead of fundamentals, but nobody knows yet whether the module arrives on schedule.

BOX 3: DIVERGENCE. WHY DO THESE STOCKS MOVE DIFFERENTLY?

Because they are not the same business.
- Micron: it is closest to ChangXin's server memory target, yet it has held up better this week, with only a 1% dip on Thursday.
- SanDisk: a flash maker whose datacenter unit is a key growth driver, so it trades on AI storage sentiment and flash pricing.
- Western Digital: now a pure-play hard disk drive company serving hyperscalers and enterprises. One analyst also pointed out that $2.7 billion of its $3.2 billion fiscal third-quarter net income was a paper gain on its Sandisk stake, so earnings quality matters here.
- Seagate: also HDD-focused, and it has often moved differently from flash names. On one September session, Micron held flat while Seagate and SanDisk fell.

The lesson: do not treat them as one trade.

THE MACRO LAYER

Two outside pressures are stacking on top. First, hotter US inflation data hit chip and AI-related trades, with SanDisk's pre-market decline of nearly 4.8% shown as part of a segment-wide drawdown. Second, the AI-credit mood: Oracle fell nearly 9% as CoreWeave's bond scare spread. If AI financing worries grow, memory demand expectations get questioned too.

MY REBUILD CHECKLIST: SIGNALS I AM WAITING FOR

1. Stabilization: the memory ETF stops making lower lows and holds above recent lows for several sessions.
2. ChangXin clarity: whether it delivers its server module on schedule or slips.
3. Flash pricing: SanDisk's next quarterly report could show whether flash pricing holds as competition from China builds, and datacenter demand may matter as much as pricing.
4. Macro calm: the Fed meeting on October 27-28 and no new inflation shock.
5. AI credit stress easing, without more bond scares.

HOW I AM HANDLING MY OWN PLAN

I am not rushing back in. I would rather scale in with smaller pieces, set clear stop-levels, and avoid putting the whole sector in one basket. A crowded trade can keep reversing even without bad news, so patience costs less than guessing the bottom.

💾 AI is still developing, but are storage stocks already buckling?
Not long ago, storage was a hot sector that the market couldn't get enough of. Now, the sector is under sustained pressure.
Related stocks including Kioxia, SanDisk, Western Digital, and Seagate have pulled back one after another, while Micron has also seen significant volatility.
The market's concerns this time go beyond short-term profit-taking.
📉 Valuation: Have growth expectations driven by AI already been priced into stocks?
🔥 Competition: Could new technologies and new players entering the market change the storage industry's landscape?
📊 Divergence: Why have Micron, SanDisk, and Western Digital started moving in different directions despite all being storage stocks?
The long-term case for growing AI demand and short-term stock price movements aren't necessarily the same thing.
