#BTCBreaksBelow82K $BTC #ShareWeekly
CPI came in hot, BTC slid from the mid-83Ks to below 81K, and the card asks whether you’re holding, trimming or buying. I don’t think one candle decides that, so here’s the framework I’d use instead.
1. What the print actually said
September CPI rose 3.7% year over year against 3.6% expected, up from 3.4% in August. Core came in at 2.6% against 2.5% expected, with a 0.3% monthly gain versus 0.2% expected. The headline monthly gain of 0.6% was in line.
2. Why core matters more than the headline
One report says energy rose 5.2% on the month and added 0.38 points of the 0.6 headline gain. That’s about 63% of it (my math), and energy can reverse. Core is the stubborn part, and shelter and several services categories rose together. That matters because the Fed already hiked a quarter point in September, to 3.75%–4.00%. Odds of another hike on Oct 27–28 rose, with estimates ranging from roughly 23% to 37% depending on the snapshot.
3. The reaction in numbers
BTC fell from about 83,860 to 82,731 within five minutes of the release, then kept sliding to a low around 80,200–80,300. That’s about 4.4% from the pre-print level (my math). Liquidations reportedly neared $1B over 24 hours, mostly longs. That’s leverage getting flushed, which isn’t the same as a trend change.
4. A tight support stack (levels from my daily chart)
Price is around 80,788.
ETF cost basis, about 81,500 per one on-chain analysis: +0.9%
50-day MA at 81,228: +0.6%
Chart support at 80,786: right here
80,000, where the same analysis says the biggest block of spot bids sits: -1.0%
99-day at 73,786: -8.7%, and 200-day at 72,316: -10.5%
Resistance at 86,577: +7.2%
That’s four reference points inside 2%, then a long drop with no major level I’ve marked in between. RSI is about 44, and MACD is below its signal line with a negative histogram. Momentum is weak, not broken. Being slightly below the average ETF cost basis is also where breakeven sellers tend to show up. That’s my hypothesis, not a fact.
5. The next two tests
Producer prices (PPI) are due today at 8:30 ET, and then the Fed meets Oct 27–28. If producer prices echo CPI, hike pricing hardens. “Fully priced in” is a strong phrase before either one lands.
6. How I’d map it
Daily close above 81.5K plus a reclaim of the 50-day: stabilizing, and 86.6K comes back into play.
Holding the 80K zone without a reclaim: chop, so patience beats forcing trades.
Daily close below 80K: the next structural area is 73.8K, and I’d cut leverage.
The poll on this topic shows 45% expecting a rebound and 40% expecting a test of 80K. That’s an almost perfect split, so it tells me the crowd is unsure, not which way it breaks.
My take: I’m not chasing in either direction until a daily close decides it. The useful move is to define invalidation before entry and size so an 80K break doesn’t hurt. A hot core print is a reason to respect risk, not a reason to predict a top.
Not financial advice.
Where’s your line: 81.5K, 80K or 73.8K? And does a hot core print change your view of the Fed, or do you treat it as noise?
