#SolanaMajorUpgradeScheduled #ShareWeekly $SOL

On October 21 at around 14:50 UTC, Solana swaps out its consensus mechanism for the first time since genesis. Alpenglow replaces TowerBFT, and the headline is finality dropping from about 12.8 seconds to a target of roughly 150 milliseconds. Here’s what I think is solid and what’s still a promise.

1. What actually happens that day
Activation is set for epoch 1064, around 15:00 UTC. TowerBFT is scheduled to keep running for about 18 minutes (5,000 slots) after the feature switches on, then Alpenglow takes over. The network’s own guidance says wallets and apps should keep working as they do today.

2. The math behind “99%”
150 ms against 12.8 s is a drop of about 98.8%, or roughly 85x faster (my calculation). But 150 ms is a target, not a measurement. Real mainnet numbers only exist after activation. Simulations point to a median near 150 ms, with a possible dip toward 100 ms under favorable conditions.

3. The dashboard trap
Voting moves out of blocks. Even if real usage stays exactly the same, reported transaction counts are likely to fall sharply. Expect screenshots saying “Solana activity collapsed.” That would be an accounting change, not a demand collapse. The flip side: the “extra capacity” idea is a potential benefit, not a proven one.

4. Who it actually helps
Faster finality matters most for order-book trading, payments, and anything where waiting for settlement is friction. It doesn’t fix demand, fees or token supply. A faster pipe doesn’t create users by itself.

5. The risks
This is described as the biggest consensus change in the network’s history, going live on a network that holds real value. Validators need Agave 4.3.0 and at least 0.8 SOL above the rent-exempt minimum for the admission fee, which is about $82 at today’s price (my math). One report says some alternative validator clients aren’t in the first wave. If accurate, that matters for client diversity.

6. Priced in? What my daily chart says
SOL is around $102.07, roughly 18% below the early-October peak near 125 (eyeballed from the chart).

Support at 101.90: price is basically on it (-0.2%)
50-day MA at 109.43: about +7.2%
Resistance at 127.56: about +25%
99-day at 94.14: about -7.8%
200-day at 87.27: about -14.5%
RSI is around 35, and MACD is below its signal line with a negative histogram.

That doesn’t look like a market front-running the upgrade. It looks like a market selling into it, which could also mean positioning is already light. I treat that as a hypothesis, not a fact. Either the dip sets up a catalyst bounce, or the upgrade passes quietly and price stays range-bound.

My take: technically big, but probably more important for the long game than for next week’s candle. I’m not trading the headline. I’m watching three things: whether live finality lands near the target, whether the network stays stable through the switch, and whether 101.90 holds. A daily close below it puts the 94 area in focus, while a close back above 109.43 would be the first sign the market cares.

Not financial advice.

Do you think a technical upgrade like this moves price, or only usage over time? And where’s your line on SOL, 101.90 or 94?
