#DrLinHanSpeaksAtOxfordUnion

Four weeks from today, Dr. Han takes the Oxford Union stage to talk about the future of money. Instead of guessing what he’ll say, I looked at what’s already checkable about Gate, because the speech will be judged against that.

1. The slot is short
Thursday Nov 12, 3:30 to 4:30 PM UK time. The Union’s page lists the Debate Chamber or the Goodman Library, and entry is first come, first served. That’s 60 minutes including questions, so expect headlines, not a deep dive.

2. Check one: reserves, and they move
Gate’s published reserve ratio was 125% on Jan 6 ($9.48B), 117% on Jul 27, and 127% on Aug 19 ($8.2B). Across those three reports, that’s a 10-point swing in about three weeks, so the latest report matters more than any single headline number.
My rough math from the rounded ratios: implied customer balances went from about $7.6B to about $6.5B, roughly 15% lower in dollar terms, which is mostly price. In coins, though, BTC customer balances rose from 17,640 to about 22,400 (+27%), while BTC reserves rose from 24,817 to 27,550 (+11%). The BTC cushion narrowed from 40.7% to 22.8%. Still above 100%, but narrower.

3. Check two: the card
The Visa-linked card was announced Oct 8 for 40+ markets, described as a planned rollout. An Oct 14 update lets auto top-up draw from four accounts (Spot, Gate Money, Simple Earn and Stocks) across 14 crypto assets and tokenized stocks, with a priority order you set. That order decides which bucket gets spent first, so set it deliberately.

4. What I can’t check yet
Gate Money launched Oct 7. I couldn’t find usage numbers, a fee schedule or per-country availability. Gate says 48M+ users in January and 61M+ now, about +27%, but those are company figures. Some promo lines I couldn’t verify either, like “first trading platform on this stage”. The Union’s page doesn’t say that.

5. The question I’d ask
The reserve reports I read list crypto assets and stablecoins. Gate Money adds bank-style balances, stocks, ETFs and gold. Will reserve-style reporting extend to those, and who holds them?

6. Limits
A reserve ratio is Gate’s own published figure. It’s a useful transparency tool, not a full audit of every obligation. A speech doesn’t change that.

My take: It’s a good stage, and Gate has a real reserve-reporting history. But “future of money” gets earned through repeatable disclosure. I’ll judge it by whether the next reserve report covers the new products.

Not financial advice.

What’s the one number you’d want Gate to publish before trusting it with daily spending: reserves, fees or availability? And does a stage like Oxford change trust, or only the report does?
